Since Rhinelander won’t cross my vinyl floor to get in and out of his room I have laid down an old sheet for him to go back and forth on.  I’d like to find something more permanent and something that will look a nicer.  I’m not sure what to do.  It’s about 8′ and only needs to be wide enough for him to cross.  Any suggestions?

I would use two small mats, like people have in front of their doors or in bathrooms, the ones with the rubbr backing. They wash easy in the machine. My rabbits love to hop from mat to mat over the slippery floors. But make sure he does not try to eat them. For rabbits prone to nibbling on rug edges, I use sheets of cardboard with the rough inside layer exposed for traction.

Thanks Petzy. I’ll have to see if he’ll do that.

You could also get a floor runner. It’s like a table runner, but for the floor.

We used to have floor runners for my dog when he got too old and had trouble with the hardwood floors. They helped a lot

Thanks. Maybe I’ll see what Menard’s has today.

You could put whatever you use along the wall there instead of from doorway to doorway. Then it won’t get underfoot for the rest of you. I wonder if it’s just the light to dark that has him uncertain?

And it doesn’t have to be full rugs… a strip of something 8 inches wide along the wall would be enough to get him where he’s going.

It wouldn’t work to go from wall to wall. You can’t see it in the picture but my hallway is on the other side of the living room wall. I’d have to turn with it and cross the hallway. I’m not sure if it’s the floor, the color or his he’s just being a stinker. =) Thanks for all the suggestions!
