Luna just flicked her feet in disapproval of a loud noise downstairs that startled her, when she flicked them back one heel smacked into our trim on the wall and now you can see the skin and it’s very red/raw. ):

Is there anything I should do to treat the heel to prevent infection/alleviate the pain?

Sorry it’s not very clear, I had to take it quickly with my cell phone. In person it is much redder, it appears to be a cut

Does she sit on wire at all? She could have sore hocks, which do need to be taken care of.

Nope there isn’t any wire anywhere, the part that looks very irritated is right on the back tip of her heel.

you could clean it good and put neosporin with no pain relief on it to help it heal if its a clean cut

Thanks for the advice (: should I just use a damp paper towel to clean it?

Like Monkeybun said… is it possible that it’s actually a sore hock instead of a wound? They’re really easy to miss, and you might not have noticed it until you looked after she bumped herself.

Sore hocks aren’t a big deal unless they get infected, in which case they need vet care. A lot of bunnies get them, even if they aren’t around wire flooring. Sore hocks can develop just from a bunny zooming around a room with a rug or carpet.

I took Remy to a vet once because I was worried about his hocks, but they weren’t infected and he said that, if things proceed naturally, a callous will form there as nature’s way to protect the rubbed skin. Try and check that area and see if it’s pink and callousy, or red and possibly infected.

If it’s pink and callousy, I would advise cleaning it but not putting anything on it like neosporin because that would soften the skin. Let the callous develop naturally.

If, instead, it is actually from the bump on the wall, then just ignore everything I just said : D
