So tomorrow I am going to a friend’s house to petsit for her, and bringing Zeus with me.  We’ll be there for a week.  He will have to live in a smaller habitat for the week (at home he lives in a dog crate with a cube grid pen attached, at the friend’s house it’ll be just a dog crate), but on the flip side he will have more out of cage time, quite a bit more.  I may even leave him out overnight if I feel comfortable with that.  I don’t want to bring his cube grid pen as it doesn’t have a sturdy ceiling, and while I’m at school I want to be 100% sure he’s safe because the other animals in the house include 2 bigger dogs and 3 cats.  He’ll also be in a room with the door closed so the other pets can’t get in, so he WILL be safe.

Anyways, I thought it’d be fun to turn this into a little mini “vacation” for him, with fun stuff and extra goodies throughout the week.  For example, he usually only gets greens twice a day.  During the week-long “vacation”, I’ll be able to feed him greens 4-5 times a day.  As mentioned, he’ll also be getting more out of cage time, and in a new environment to explore (he actually enjoys checking out new places).  There’s also a fully fenced back yard I may let him go out in, obviously by himself with no other pets, and under my careful supervision.  But that’ll be only if I think he enjoys it; if he’s frightened we won’t do it!

What are some other ideas?  I’ll be around the house a lot more than usual, so I’ll have time to really pamper him.  Any other ideas to make his “vacation” more awesome and fun and great?

(Oh, and mods, wasn’t sure where this should go, so move as neccessary!)

Sounds like a vacation to me!

Although you may then have to put him on the ‘after vacation diet’  .

Oh don’t worry, he won’t actually be getting that much MORE to eat, just more frequent meals.

I’ll be the nervous nellie here and bring up one thing. Probably you’ll do anyway. With the room he’ll be in, when you pull the door shut, make sure it clicks and push on it to be sure. Also,if it has a lever type handle be sure the cats or dogs can’t open it.

Other thing is he may mark alot in the new space. Did he do that much when he came to live with you?

OK, done. Hope you and he enjoy your mini vacation and the extra space!

Oh don’t worry, that’s covered.  The room he’ll be in actually has a deadbolt on it (it’s the friend’s office, so she has a lot of expensive/valuable stuff in there I guess?), so unless I’m actually in the room with him, the door will be locked.  So unless the kittys and pups can learn how to insert a key into a door, he’s safe. .  Thanks for the comment though, I know keeping multiple species under one roof can be challenging.

Also, as for the marking, he’s astonishingly not a marker.  He’s moved twice with me, and been to my parents’ house, so he’s been in unfamiliar surroundings 3 times since I got him, and he doesn’t mark, neither with poops or pee/spray.  Probably the fact that he hasn’t been around other bunnies since his littermates helps.  His litter habits are pretty much perfect, I’ve been very lucky.

The same thought that jersey mentioned crossed my mind, so glad she asked first.
You might want to bring some cord protection in case some of those expensive items have exposed tasty cords in the room.

Otherwise, a toy, like the new tunnel binky bunny dot com is selling in the store, might be fun to bring. It collapses so easy to carry, and it’s both a toy and a hidey place, in case he gets nervous or sleepy and wants an option outside the dog crate.
