Not sure where to post this quickie lol Can anyone who has lionhead bunnies answer me a question as regards their coats? Babs is 12 weeks and seems to get fluffier and fluffier every day! Does the coat change as they mature or does it stay mega fluffy? It doesnt bother me either way as she gets an all over comb (and the removal of what seems to be half a ton of hay!) every morning. I know she’s still a baby but she looks HUGE except it’s all fluff lol and is really tiny haha

It depends – lionheads aren’t as established of a breed as some others, so their fur can vary. They are supposed to keep their mane and a ruff of fur around their sides and bum. Many lionheads actually shed out most of their mane by the time they are adults and don’t have the ruff at all. And yet others, called ‘teddy lionheads’ are just fluffy all over. So tough to tell!

Thanks! That seems to be how she’s heading her mane is really growing but her back seems to be smoothing out as you say leaving a sort of ruff round her sides and bum! I’ve just taken another pic and I’ll post it as soon as I can find the USB lead for the computer!!

typicaly the back will be shorter with the mane and “skirt” longer….some do loose most of their mane :o( I have some pics on my lionheads if you wanna sneak a peak.

OMG! She’s like a little baby Smokey! So adorable. I have 2 lionheads. Smokey has a double mane and fluffy like Babs, and my other lionhead, Bandit has a single mane. You can hardly even tell she has a mane. Here’s a good pic that shows how Smokey’s fur grew out. He will get mats in the mane if not brushed out buth his body fur is pretty short.

Long haired bunnies will need more grooming, be prepared to brush every day

i read somewhere online that when a lionhead reaches 4 months, they will shed all their baby fur and whatever is left will be what they’ll look like as an adult.looks like Babs will have a full mane. brushing her is very important because they get matted so easy and that way, you’ll help her remove extra fur so she wont ingest it.

She’s been combed every day since I got her. Luckily she likes it and just sits there! The only place she never liked me touching is her front but I realised I was approaching from the blind spot so if I do it from the sides shes cool with that. I think I’ve been very lucky with her she’s such a placid little thing but now I say that she is starting a bit of attitude but nothing serious. Next big step is her spay after Christmas (am SO scared!) I’ve been so lucky to get her as I’m housebound due to health problems and we spend all day together
