I have a roach issue in my apartment and I am hesitant to do anything drastic so I don’t hurt my bunny. I have roach houses in places that he can’t get to and I keep my kitchen spotless… So I know I need to do more to get rid of them. How do you take care of the roach issues without harming your bunnies??

You can use a soap & water mixture. The soap blocks the roaches pores and essentially suffocates it, but the roach has to get sprayed with it. I had a few roaches months ago and had an exterminator come adn spray with pet safe spray all the areas where the bunnies are not and do not have access to. There is also a borax mixture that you can make too, while not toxic per say I would definitely keep it out of reach of kids and pets.

My boyfriend and I use diatomaceous earth to keep the roaches at bay. Supposedly it’s only harmful for arthropods, but we only sprinkle it where we know the bunnies will not get to run around.

When we lived in Florida (Roach Heaven), we used Combat Roach Killer. They look sort of like roach motels, but they’re little black discs that have poison on the inside. The roaches take the poison back to their nests in the walls and share it… then they all die.

Yes, it was poison, but the discs are very small and you can put them in places the bunnies can’t reach, like underneath the fridge, in closet corners, etc. They are the best roach killers I’ve ever seen. After just a couple of weeks, the roaches seemed to disappear!

I have 15 of those out in my place right now. I did notice a difference, but I still prefer not to open a drawer with a huge nasty roach in it. They give me the creepers!

Is your apartment building aware of the roach issue? The problem with connected apartments is even if YOU address the issue in YOUR place, if they are in other apartments, they’ll keep coming back.

I totally agree with Beka – you may need to spray everywhere – you may need to find a place for bunny while they spray your apartment and the surrounding apartments. That may be your only option to keep the roach problem under control.

Are pets permitted in your apartment building? If so, the building might be able to have an exterminator use a pet safe spray. Even still tho, I would probably try to find a good spot for Bing for a week afterwards.
