My bunny Sydney is an enthusiastic digger, however I would prefer not to have shavings all over the floor to have to clean up every time she is out for a romp. I bought a bigger litterbox but that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’m thinking of getting a cat litterbox, one that has a top/lid and a door she could go in and out of.  Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Oh and she is spayed so it’s not frustration, she’s just a messy brat

It really depends on how much she digs. You could try something like the litter box below if you wanted to still allow her to dig and wanted to keep the open top litter box style, but wanted to limit the mess to some degree.

However, if she digs so enthusiastically that she’d throw shavings above the side of this kind of litter box, or that she’d throw them all out of the door part, the only solution would be a closed top litter box or the screen posted above

I had to giggle!! Kahlua just decided this is the BEST IDEA ever and the little snot was doing this for weeks. I would just sweep it up and put it back in-and she’d dig it back out.
              The screens are great.
I got very high sided litter boxes as it was time to throw all the boxes out and get new ones anyways and she’s stopped and moved on to the phone book to destroy

I think you may have discovered his favorite way of playing. I would try a diggy box that’s in addition to a better litter pan arrangement.
Take a cardboard box or a basket, fill it with shredded paper (shred a phone book if you have a shredder, or just tear it into thin strips). Phone books use soy based ink that is safe for bunnies to chew. Fill the box with the shreds, and plop him into it. If he loves to play diggy, he will like it, or leave but come back to it. Watch for his attempts to use it as a new litter pan. If he pees or poos, take the soiled stuff and put that out of the diggy box and into his litter pan, so he learns you go in one, not the other.

I have that exact litter pan lol! and she still makes a gigantic mess

Bunnies are stubborn little things aren’t they? Sydney does the same thing, as soon as I sweep the shavings up and put them back in, she digs it all back out immediately. I have to laugh, at least she’s burning off some energy! A phone book is an awesome idea but she’d probably eat the paper haha.

I have been thinking about making her a diggy box…but there’s limited space since she already has the Mini Haven…I will definitely try a litter box with a lid and hope for the best!

                  Thanks for the suggestions everyone

I put screens on Jennys boxes and gave her a covered box as well so she can still have fun digging…she like never potties in the covered one, its just a digging box to her :p

Definitely screens! I got the one from the BB store for my larger box and it worked perfectly. Then Hannah decided to dig in the smaller square litter box and I couldn’t find a screen made to fit, so I bought a roll of 1/2″x1/2″ mesh from the garden center at the hardware store and made my own.
