I knew things had been too calm around here lately. BunBun has been fine since his GI stasis in August and I was just starting to really relax. You know how when a buny has been really sick, you watch them like a hawk (well maybe not like a HAWK- lol). And if they do anything remotely strange, your heart skips a beat and you go into emengency mode…? Hopefully it’s not just me.

So last night, I was preparing the bunnies greens and fruit dinner (the highlight of thir little day), and I was running a bit late . When BunBun feels that his dinner is late  he gets very naughty. He goes hopping into the half bath, which he’s not supposed to be in- it’s never closed since there’s nothing dangerous in there, just an unspoken agreement between us. Then he starts chewing on the wallpaper and books, and chasing Nelli around. Every time she lays down, he goes and nudges her bum with his nose (Nelli is very sensitive about her rear end) and sends her into a panic. Well, last night I noticed BunBuneating something on the kitchen rug. I thought it must be a green that dropped off the counter, but went around to investigate anyway. I saw that what he was eating was green and started to leave him to it, but then I heard that there was a squeaking sound as he chewed. I got down and tried to get it out of his mouth, and of course he was shaking his head back and forth, trying to keep his forbidden treat. Finally I got a hold of the thing and pulled it from his mouth. It was a Silly Band- many people who have older kids will know what these are. They are these rubber bracelets, reminiscent of the regular, thicker rubber bracelets, but much lighter/thinner and they come in weird shapes and colors. They are basically very expensive rubber bands He seemed fine afterward, wolfed down his dinner as usual. But now I’m all nervous about him. I looked on here and it seems that rubber bands are a favorite of rabbits everywhere. So I’m thinking it will probably be fine- I’m watching for bright green bits in his poop, but maybe it won’t show up like that. Last night I was sure it was caught in his throat, but it must have gone down by now.

If anyone has had a bunny eat something like this, feel free to share! I am observing BunBun for any issues- he really keeps me on my toes

My buns went to town on the remote control buttons once! It has made changing the channel a little more interesting! I kept an eye on them afterwards but they were fine! I keep them out of reach now!

Just watch him really closely for a few days. If it happened last night and he’s still alright today, he’ll probably be fine. For some reason, rabbits seem to love chewing rubbery things – countless bunnies have chewed on remote controls, uncovered wires, and in the case of one of my rabbits, my rubber boots.

Yeah I’d just keep a close eye. My bunnies have also ‘remodelled’ our remote controls before and were fine. Do you know if it was the whole bracelet?

I would say to keep watching his poo to make sure he doesn’t get blocked. Bunnies seem to pass things quickly so if he’s okay now and in a few days you don’t notice anything he’ll probably stay okay.

What is it about rubbery things?! I think all of my purses that have those fake/rubbery/plastic handles have chew marks and I have a pair of plastic sandals with the thong part nearly chewed through. He hasn’t had any problems but I need to be extra careful about what I leave on the floor.
