Hi everyone. I am new bunny owner. We just adopted Lollypop on Sunday. We built her a 3 level condo. She took a few days to discover her top floor… but now that she has, that is where she hangs all day. She comes down to eat and use liter box, but goes right back up. She has been out on the floor a bit, but not as much as previous days.

Is this normal? I keep thinking back to the wild, they would not be up high… she is like a princess surveying her kingdom! It is very cute. Just want to know if this is normal!

        Thanks!

        Becky

I don’t think it’s abnormal – I think all rabbits are going to behave differently so I can’t say that it’s normal either.

Domestic rabbits may behave somewhat differently too from their wild cousins since they may not have the same dangers to worry about too.

I can only assume she feels safe up high where she can see everything – get the lay of the land, so to speak.

Yeah I do think it’s a safety and ‘surveying the land’ thing. Even when I let him out of his pen, my rabbit likes to hang out on the back of my couch, pretty much the highest point he can reach in my apartment.

Many domestic rabbits like to be in high places, so I would say it’s normal. My boy doesn’t like to climb or jump, but my girl will get up as high as she can. She’s jumped up on:
                the dining room table
the back of the recliner (luckily it was against a wall so she didn’t fall right off the back side)
                the back of the couches
the top of her jungle gym, which is a three story NIC thingy

I think surveying their kingdom is a nice way to put it! Haha. Females tend to be more dominant, and in my experience they like to be on the lookout to survey their territory, which means climbing up high to get a lookout – at least this is what Hannah seems to be doing all the time.

Lulu is the same as Hannah. she is always as high as she can get. She is always at the top of her condo, on the couches, on my bed ect. so i would say its normal.

Babsy has always liked being up high, she hates sitting on my knee she far prefers my shoulder and would  climb on topof my head if I let her!!!
