So as I have posted in the past, Zeus has a designated “carrot eating place”.  Every meal, I go into the kitchen, and open the crisper drawer.  Zeus comes running in, and I hand him a piece of carrot.  Then I follow him into the living room carrying his greens, and he jumps into his cage to eat his carrot while I put out the greens.

Occasionally I feed him celery, which requires chopping before I feed it.  I’ll give him his carrot and let him go back into the living room, to presumably go into his cage to eat while I chop celery.  But unless I follow him, he won’t go in!  He’ll circle the living room looking for me, holding the carrot in his mouth the whole time.  It’s only when I enter the living room, and walk over to his cage, that he’ll THEN go running into his cage and eat his carrot.

Any clue why he waits for me?  I do find it adoreable, especially when he’s searching the living room for me with this chunk of carrot in his mouth. .  I’m just curious if there’s a specific reason he wants me to come with him, before he’ll go into his cage and eat.  Am I the “lookout” or something, to make sure no one steals his carrot?  Or does he want to make sure I am bringing along his greens?  Or something else?

Buns are creatures of habit, right?

Well, its possible you just notice this because you are watching him – what does he do when you don’t watch him? You probably don’t really know :~)

Actually my kitchen has one of those half-wall things, so I can watch him in the living room while I’m in the kitchen, without him knowing it.

I would say it’s probably routine for him. You have both gotten into this routine and when you don’t follow the routine, he doesn’t know what to do. Not saying you necessarily need to follow the routine all the time but that probably explains his behavior.

Eddie was big on habits. If I were to change any habits or routines, he just looked confused. Then he usually got a bit ticked off about it. LOL And God forbid I move his pen area. I did once and I had to show him where all his stuff was. It was just right behind him in the dining room rather than the living room, but my “special” boy couldn’t seem to figure out to turn around. LOL
