Sorry if this is the wrong place for this!
Marshmallow had stopped eating and had tiny tiny poops. I brought him yesterday into the emergency vet (since it was Sunday and my Bunny vet was closed). They gave him fluids since he was very dehydrated, and xrayed him to check for blockages. Since they are not normally bunny vets, they freaked me out and thought his scans showed gas and blockages everywhere, sent them to a specialist to read who replied that no, it was a normal bunny tummy scan. They sent us home with medicine (Sorry, I am at work posting this and don’t have the bottle here with me) and critical care. They said to give him the CC 3 times daily, and the meds 4 times. They did call my normal bunny vet and updated them on Melly’s status, so I am guessing they asked advice for treatment from them…
Now I bet these vets are great, but since they obvs couldn’t read the scans, I am a little worried that they didn’t send me home with the absolute best plan. Marshmallow had an almost distended stomach last night, which they said was from the fluids and CC they put in him and it seemed to go back to normal today. He did poop last night which was great, they were a bit smaller than normal sized. He also munched a bit on grain and hay last night. I tried to give him CC this morn but he wasn’t into eating it. I don’t think he has pooped since I saw them last night.
I don’t want to bring him to his bunny vet if I am just creating problems in my head, and the Emergency Vet did suggest a good plan. Obviously I want Melly to get back to normal, and be fine.
My question to all of you, is can people make recommendations on things to look out for, and things I can do the help him recover? I am also concerned becaus I don’t know what caused the Stasis. The emergency vet said she tried to look at his molars, but Melly wouldn’t let her see them and was going to try again. But then next time I talked to her she brought up surgery and I freaked out and forgot to ask if she checked them out. We also moved Melly last week back downstairs (He had been downstairs in his own room for about a year, we moved him upstairs while we had our wedding/honeymoon to give him his own room from the cats with a full door when we were gone. We just moved him back downstairs last week but into a bunny condo that we made in our living room. So could it be stress of the move?
Thanks for reading this horrendously long post and for any advice you can give!
