I rushed down to the vets while on break during class and picked up the Dasuquin for Gracie’s arthritis.  I came home and sprinkled it on some applesauce.  Gracie eats anything without sniffing it usually but this time she turned her head away from it.  It’s Chicken and Tuna flavored capsules.  I thought if I missed it in with a yummy treat she’d eat it but the scent is too strong and so I had to throw it out.  Has anyone ever given this supplement before or know of a way to cover it up or should I just try to take it back next week?  I paid $44 for it

I’d take it back. They know its for a rabbit.. what rabbit eats tuna or chicken??

I don’t know if they had anything else for rabbits. The woman at the shelter used it before and put it in baby food for one rabbit. What about mush pellets? Maybe I’ll just email them about it and see if there’s anything else they have.

They don’t make this for rabbits. Sometimes you might be able to get your rabbit to eat this if you can mask the flavor and I think some people are successful doing this. Your choices if it’s made for pets is pretty darn limited unfortunately. I know they make something called Cosequin for horses and it’s sweetened flavored BUT you have to get a big huge bucket of this and who knows who much you give…I think Cosamin is made for humans and it comes in a capsule form and you can sprinkle the powder on their food. I don’t think it’s exactly like the animal forms of Dasaquin and Cosequin.

Maybe mush up a banana and try it on that.

I looked up the human stuff but it was a little different than Dasuquin with the dosage of mg’s. I’ll go to the grocery store tomorrow and find some bananas. What about pumpkin? I can’t remember what kind you get, I know someone said not to get pumpkin pie mix right?

Yes, the dosage is different for humans but it’s not flavored, so it’s an option you can discuss with your vet and perhaps your vet can help you dose this.

                  Just regular canned pumpkin.

Oh ok. I think I emailed her about it but the vet tech just emailed me back about Dasuquin…I will try either the pumpkin or banana but if she refuses that I’ll have to call up the vet.

I got her to eat it yay! I moistened some pellets and mixed it in really good and she didn’t know. She ate it all up, good girl! Hopefully this will help. Does anyone know if there has been any side affects for rabbits? Well hopefully this helps her a lot. I’m not sure when I’ll see a difference. Poor girl will have to go to the vets again later on too, her ears have been getting waxy (she shakes her head sometimes) so the vet wants to look and make sure it’s not red in there and maybe she can give me something to clean it out. Who knew something so small would cost some much but it’s worth it.

I believe this will take four to six weeks to show an improvement.

Thanks Sarita! If I didn’t know better I’d say she thinks it worked right away because she was at the top of her cottage and she jumped off! She’s never done that, I was scared she hurt herself but she was fine.
