As for the vets I say keep them both! lol use the first one and when she isn’t available use the second one I would have a copy of Chachas health records so when you use the other vet they can see what Chacha has had done in the past. *HUGS to Chacha*

Brittany, I can’t remember but does she get timothy hay or not because of your allergies? I just added some pellet suggestions to your other thread but it might be worth going back to a high quality alfalfa pellet. I was looking over this article (though it’s 7 years old now) that suggest you can feed an alfalfa pellet as long as it meets ideal protein and calcium content.
 

Now, what about alfalfa vs. timothy-based pellets? Clovers such as alfalfa have a higher protein and calcium content than do grasses, roughly twice as much per unit weight. Thus, in general, alfalfa-based pellets may have a higher protein and calcium content than will grass-based pellets. This varies, however, with the stage of hay that is used, so always read the label on the back of the bag to verify the actual protein and calcium content. (For example, late bloom alfalfa and early bloom timothy have the same protein content.)

Is one better than the other? For most rabbits, not really. This is because we feed limited pellet amounts to our rabbits, and therefore the rabbits are not receiving an excess of protein or calcium. If your rabbit is maintaining a steady weight, then you are probably feeding the right amount. Here at the main foster home for Wisconsin HRS, all our rabbits receive a low calorie, alfalfa-based pellet (Purina HF, or “high fiber”), and we have not seen protein or calcium problems in the nearly 400 rabbits who have passed through our facility.

I second that idea, and you can have many healing vibes for Chacha. Will definitely be thinking of you, please keep us updated.

It’s actually a good idea to have two vets you like. That way you aren’t starting with a stranger again in an emergency, and you can share information with them both. If this new vet’s treatment clears up the ears, just continue with her, or when you switch back, let the first one know what happened and the result. They may be colleagues who know each other anyway.

I hope ChaCha’s ears get better soon! Hopefully it’s the pellets that she’s allergic to- that would be pretty simple to fix. And I think it’s awesome to have two vets- I wish I did. Now if you could find an emergency vet that’s open 24/7 and doesn’t cost a fortune, you’d be all set!

Did she think it was a food allergy or some other kind of allergen? That just seems so general. Did the vet suggest the food was the problem? It just seems odd that a food allergy would cause this problem in her ear.

6 weeks seems like a long time. Is it maybe a smaller place? That just seems odd. How are they able to treat any pet with serious illness or injury with x-rays taking that long? Maybe whoever quoted you was thinking of something else? I’d call back and double check.

Yeah, usually the vet does the x-ray in house and has it right there…is this some special kind of x-ray….
