         Hello all!

I recently just moved my bunny from an empty bedroom in the house to my own bedroom. I did this because my parents wanted to move him outside and I simply couldn’t have that. So I rearranged my bedroom completely to make room for his two story condo type cage.

Here’s the ..sort of.. issue. Ever since I moved him in here, whenever I open the cage door, all he does it run in and out of his cage a few times, and then sits back in the cage. He used to love going through my bedroom (it used to be an explosion of clothes and other junk) but now is simple and completely cleaned out. Is this bad? Why would he be running in and out of his cage so much? Do I need to dump some unclean clothes on the floor so he has something to dig through?

my bunny does that in every new environment.he sniffs the new place and then runs back to his cage.then he goes out again a lil further than the first time he went out then runs back to his cage.he does this until he gets used to the new place.i think he’s sniffing out a path just so he wont get lost.i dont know.im just tryin to understand him.LOL

Perhaps he’s just scoping out the “new” range and going back to the safety of what’s familiar in between. It’s great that he feels his condo is a safe haven. I think soon you’ll have trouble getting back there though once he feels comfortable out in the room! You could put out some tunnels – just a piece of cardboard in a tent shape would do.

Yes! He loves his house. When I’m cleaning it out and won’t allow him back in there after he comes out willingly, he always tries to stand up as tall as he can and look at what I’m doing. lol.

I have a question though, should I line the cage floor with something? Like towels or something like that? Just the wood seems kind of hard for him to sleep on.

No need to line it if he’s sleeping well. Many bunnies actually sleep better on the smooth surface, and just chew and bunch up any kind of flooring liner. If I had to get Sammy some plain rugs and woven seagrass mattes because she doesn’t like the tiles I used, and marooned herself on little squares of seagrass until I fixed it for her. You can give him a little bed, like a fleece cage bottom liner or a cat bed, and see if he likes that to sleep on. Sammy hates walking on tiles, but is fine sleeping on them.

He is exploring his environment in ever-widening circles. That’s normal territory behavior that’s deeply ingrained. He also really likes his cage, so knowing he can come out, he likes to be in there anyway. Samantha is in her cage right now, in the next room, and as long as the door is open, she doesn’t fuss.
