        Hi

One of our rabbits Clarissa just took an overdose of Panacur (anti-worming drug) due to a faulty syringe (one of those graduated syringes with notches on). We reckon she got about 7 times what she was supposed to in a single dose.

We phoned the emergency vet who says it should not be a problem and just to keep an eye on her (apparently they can tolerate very high doses of Panacur). The active ingredient is fenbendazole, looking online it looks as though our vet is correct as the LD50 (measure of toxicity) is high for fenbendazole. Just wanted a second opinion on this and whether or not anyone else has had similar problems?

        Thanks

I really don’t know about overdosing with Panacur to offer a second opinion, (though just a quick google search seems to confirm what your vet has already said) but I will ask some of the other forum leaders who may know a bit more about this.

Any other rabbit savvy vets you can call? Perhaps a friends rabbit vet?

I hope you get that 2nd opinion soon. By the way, how is Clarissa doing now with her stasis issues ?

It’s been over a day since her overdose and she seems absolutely fine so no worries now.

She’s been a bit on and off with her GI stasis in the last couple of months; we just can’t get to the bottom of what is causing it but she’s now on a daily dose of oral metaclopramide, which seems to be working as a preventative measure so far…
