  I’ve been talking to my little sister alot lately about how she fed her bun (Halo) and what she fed her and all of that…Well you are never going to believe what she said to me….
  
  She said, and I quote “and she really likes vanilla icecream!”
  
  This is a bun that I have said before will eat ANYTHING. I’m not even exagerating a little bit.
  
  My sister is also the one who gave her the tiny corn things from chinese food dishes (which i’ve heard corn isn’t the greatest for them)
  
  God only knows how much other stuff this bun was given. Luckily I have never had a problem with her not eating or pooping…
  
  I love my sister. She is a pain sometimes. But I’m sooo glad Halo is no longer in her care. There have been so many times that she has called me and said “I gave halo this or that…is it okay for her?” I kept telling her…Hun..call me BEFORE you give her the food…
  
  Anytime she ever said to me “I gave her this veggy and she gobbled it all up” I’m always nervous that she may have picked something from the garden not safe for buns…I’m sure next week I’ll find out she really liked beans or soemthign absurd like that…
  
  I guess my main question is…How is she not dead! …I actually am wondering that…but no..
  
  I’m worried she might have some kind of long term health problem now…like diabetes because it certainly sounds like she was given everything under the sun. How would I spot something like that?

  Does your sister feed her rabbit lots of hay?
  
  I would be blunt and tell her “If you keep feeding your rabbit things it is not supposed to be eating, you could kill your rabbit.”
  
  She is lucky. one of those lucky people that has a rabbit with an iron stomach. but I wouldn’t take chances.
  
  I could imagine how corn would be so icky in a rabbit’s belly. And corn from a Chinese take out.

  Diabetes is rare in rabbits. I’ve only known of one rabbit that actually tested positive for this and she was extremely overweight. Well, the outcome for her was not good and this is a rabbit who was fed correctly even though she was overweight. So you can just never know – even rabbits who are fed with the proper stuff can still succumb to illnesses.
  
  I think you can only suggest to her that she feed her rabbit based on the House Rabbit Society guidelines and suggest some appropriate treats for her rabbits.
  
  There are alot of rabbits out there who are fed weird items and somehow end up okay – maybe the just have very good genetics. But really who knows, rabbit health science is still relatively new and vets are still making discoveries and guidelines are still changing on how to properly feed a rabbit.
  
  I guess it’s one of those things like those people who live to be a 100 and smoke a pack of cigarette a day.
  
  As for corn, I don’t think the baby corns are probably a huge problem – I know that we have problems digesting corn though, not sure of the baby corn. It’s the corn kernels that are hard to digest. Not something I would feed to my rabbits though since I like it too much myself.

  Well Halo is in my care now and she does eat tons of hay. She will eat whatever kind you put in… Eric and I joke all the time that she would eat a bale of hay if we let her…
  
  Guess Halo is pretty lucky she’s got an iron stomach…
  
  And Sarita you make a very good point about the smoking thing..
  
  My sister is 15 and I guess doesn’t really understand how sensitve buns tummys can be…and since I’m the token rabbiit “expert” (compared to the rest of the family) the rule has become don’t give her anything until I okay it…Especially since hubby works with alot of plants. We have a huge garden with lots of pretty flowers and 95% are toxic to rabbits…so he’s always asking me whats safe. I guess people think that if it’s green rabbits eat it? when thats just not true… Next chance I get I’m definitly talking to her about what she has fed her bun Halo…
  
  I didn’t know that that was rare in buns…Is there something else I should be looking for?
