So, HJ and I have decided to get another bun to bond with Zelda and to help me a little with Stormy’s death. The two of us went to 3 local rescues to look at buns on Saturday, and found 7 buns, 5 of which we think we could work with as humans (the other two were ruled out because of lack of litter training, even though they tried, and too skittish – and one got adopted today anyway). And for anyone who wants to look at the potential babies (or at least 4 of the five), they’re here: http://vbspca.com/modules/pageworks…;type=Misc

So basically, I’m asking for help. Both VBSPCA and NACC said we could bring Zelda in for bunny dates after her spay, but have no rabbit specialists to guide us. What should we be looking for? What about avoiding? We have about a month to prep for this (and the volunteer said none of the babies we looked at are likely to get adopted, as they’re looked over for dark color/red eyes/cage aggressiveness, and they seldom put down rabbits).

Well, from what i was told when I took Monkey dating was that both bunnies ignoring each other was good, grooming was great, chasing and biting not so good. just watch them carefully, and see who Zelda reacts best with It may take a couple tries. So try each bun at least twice.

Does the shelter adopt out only neutered rabbits? When you bring Zelda in for bunny dates, try her with neutered bucks first. That would be the best combination.

Yep! All of those babies are neutered or spayed. Except Zoey – they JUST got her in, but by the time Zelda is spayed and ready for bunny dates, the same will be true of Zoey.
I’m secretly hoping Streetbunny will bond with her best, and he’s the only boy VBSPCA has in. I know I shouldn’t have the bias, but he looks just like Stormy did. NACC had in a grey mini rex named Nicholas. The rest are girls, unless they get in more babies in the next few weeks.

I liked Streetbunny too. I take it by “babies” you just mean bunnies? lol Not actual baby bunnies. Streetbunny is 3!

They’re all babies to me, even if they’re 12.

Oh, since the others are up online, I figured I’d give Nicholas his fair share of the limelight. Here’s the pic HJ took on his phone

Was Zelda bonded to Stormy even tho she was unspayed? How is she dealing with his passing?

No, she was not bonded to him, as he was unneutered. Also, he was located at my parents’ place, and she at my boyfriend’s. I did have plans to bond the two, but will never get the chance now.

Oh I see. Well, at least she isn’t grieving and you can take your time to pick out the right mate for her. A new bunny will be permanently at your BF’s house then?

Yep. Well, at least until next year, when we’re talking about getting a place together (assuming he finds a job in this area). And during winter break, they will both be at my parent’s house, as he can’t take them home to his parents’ house because they’re allergic to bunnies.
