I thought this might be a good way for me and Eyore to interact since he is not a toy bunny.  What is a simple way of getting started and what treats to you use for training.  I don’t want to give him too many fruits to make him fat.  He loves pellets but wants more of a treat treat from me.  I could use Exact probably he likes it and it was part of his diet at HRS so I hsve kept his diet the same on his basics.

You might like to look into clicker training. The BB store has a book on it. it is a great way to bond with your rabbit more. I do use pellets as treats personally and I am not familiar with Exact; most rabbits are absolutely crazy about dandelion leaves or clover leaves which are low-calory and a good choice for training also.

Exact is this mix of multicolor shapes and it has omega and vitamins. He gets a tbsp mixed in with his am pellets they told me I could use it as treats too and he loves it. He loves craisins but I only give him a few at a time and he loves papaya too.

I recommend getting a clicker (I love the one sold on the BB website – so much easier to use than the standard-type clicker) and either the book sold on the site, or clickerbunny.com. Great tips and it will really get you started with basic tricks and the basic theory of clicker training. It’s not hard, but there are specific things about clicker training you need to understand for it to be effective (#1 always give a treat after clicking – always). The clicker is basically a tool to say “Yes bunny, you did that right” in a very consistent manner that the bunny can understand. With such a consistent communication device your bunny will know exactly what you want from him and will gain confidence. If you just try the “do a trick then give a treat” method, he might not understand quite what you want (at least that’s what I’ve discovered with Otto). It takes a little while, depending on how smart the bunny is, to really “get” the purpose of the clicker, but once they get it he’ll be so excited to see you get it out!

For treats, I just use pellets. I can give them in large quantities and it’s easy to hold 3 or more in my fingers at once so I’m not constantly reaching for treats. When it’s a more difficult trick or something I really want to reward I’ll give a piece of dried papaya.

This was already part of his diet all of HSR bunnies get this so I just continued what he was used to.  It is used as a supplement to pellets.  I also use it as treats instead of using fruit as much.  It is small different shaped pieces.

I agree with MB that you don’t need to feed that supplement. A high quality pellet, combined with hay and veggies, is plenty of nutrition for him. Kaytee is also not known for its high quality products or commitment to rabbit health. It might be ok to use as a treat, but I would absolutely cut it out of his daily diet.
