Earlier today I put some hay in Archie & Gracie’s pellet bowl (they love to eat the little pieces of hay).  Archie has been sneezing ever since.  He’ll sneeze 5+ times in a row and his poor little nose is wet   He could have gotten a piece of hay in his nose but I would think the amount of sneezing he’s done today that it has gone out.  Anyone ever have a sneezing rabbit like this before?  I just feel bad for the little guy, I can hear him from the other room.

Mimzy is a chronic sneezer. He lives with a mild wetness under his nostrils and I get to see big goobers flying out every once in awhile. Usually he gets to them and eats them before I can grab them, which yeah…is totally gross. 0_o
And I am also wondering if his hay may be the culprit. I just got a new box of 3rd cut timmy and it flakes off something terrible. Plus the other day he snorked a bunch of water from his bottle down the wrong way (my fault) and so I’ve been concerned more than usual…but for the most part, this is typical of him. I think while we were out of this hay, he wasn’t having as much trouble. Also I can’t leave a window open in the bunny room because even a light breeze will set him off.

He sounds like a little piggy oinking when he washes himself he’s so clogged up and can hardly eat properly with all that snot up there. So I’ve given him some child’s benadryl to help him out and he sounds a little better, but it doesn’t do much for his sneezing, sadly.

When he sneezes, it’s machine gun style. One right after the other for several moments at a time. I don’t know how he catches his breath! (BTW, Mimzy is also a lop eared bunny who I think their breed typically has breathing troubles of all kinds. They have that face shape that seems to encourage aspiration of all kinds of stuff that up-ear bunnies don’t seem to deal with.)

Hopefully he just has something stuck and it will dislodge or dissolve soon, however, if you even suspect that Archie may be ill, it would be good to get a checkup to rule out anything needing medication. And yup…isn’t it always the 3 day holiday weekends they decide to have a problem on! Oi!

Glad I’m not the only one then. Archie sneezes probably once a day or a little more but he was sneezing a lot more today. I think he just snorted some hay in his nose. Haha when we first got him he sneezed so hard that a booger came out his nose and he licked it up, I have to say it was gross yet funny. And both Gracie and Archie oink as you call it when they clean themselves. Gracie also grunts when she runs into a room so she might have nose issues too but I haven’t really heard her sneeze. Hmm I never thought about that with their faces. I’ll keep watch on him and if he keeps doing it by Tues. or if he gets worse I’ll call the vet. I won’t put any small pieces of hay in their bowl tonight.

Monkey had a sneezing fir yesterday. Silly girl got some of her fur up her nose. Cutest noises ever, I swear. Of course, she glared at me for laughing at her. It was funny! And the little movements she did with her front paws was to die for… hehehehhe

My 3 year old rabbit brownie has chronic sneezing and for a long time I thought it was allergies or maybe a tickle from his hay but I took him to a exotic vet and sure enough it first was snuffles which for humans is like the flu. He had no other symptoms other than sneezing A LOT and a snorting sound when sneezing. Just recently I took him back and the vet did a culture/sensitivity test and brownie has Pseudomonas bacteria which a common bacteria found everywhere in homes but when a rabbit is under stress or have a low immune system the bacteria harbors and grows and produces infectious symptoms. Also by doing the culture we saw that he is resistant to almost all types of antibo so we are trying herbal treatments and breathing treatments to help him get better. I hope this helps anyone who is unsure and if anyone has any information for me about Pseudomonas I would love any advice.

                Thanks!

Thanks guys and thanks Brownie’s mom for the info, very helpful! I haven’t heard him sneeze today so that’s good.
