  Okay, long story short, Mimzy’s water bottle wasn’t working correctly (since last night apparently) and, like an idiot, I squeezed it a little just as he drank from it and he got some water down the wrong tube because he gave a big cough. Seems fine now, but…..
  
  Should I give him some benadryl to help clear it up? I don’t think it was a large amount, just enough to cause him to back off the bottle a moment and cough….but since it looks like none of the new bottles I just bought for the bunnies are working properly and I’m thinking they all might be a little dehydrated, so I’m wondering if an antihistamine is warranted here.
  
  Many thankies…. My poor bunnies…

  Awe, poor mimzy. I know that rabbits who do aspirate are more susceptible to getting pneumonia. Dana Krempels suggests that after an aspiration episode to check with a vet due to the pneumonia risk. HOWEVER, since this seemed like just one cough and no gagging or choking, I am not sure if it would be considered an aspiration “episode” or not, but I would just call your rabbit-savvy vet just to check her opinion on it.
  
  I’m not sure how an antihistamine would help with dehydration. ??? I know I must be missing something here. I have also read that, in humans, antihistamines can suppress the immune system, so I’m not sure if that would be the route to take in this case .
  
  Have you been able to fix the bottles or offer another water source? You could also give them their greens a bit damp so they will take in more water.

  A call to the vet would be good, but if he’s eating normally and behaving normally, I expect he’s going to be OK from one slurp.
  Doesn’t he like a crock? If you set one down temporarily while getting rid of the new bottles (argh) he may drink on his own and you’ll see if he’s ok then.
  Definitely washing veggies thoroughly will keep him hydrated.
  
  You can lead a bunny to water but you can’t help him drink.

  He’s doing fine today, so I’m guessing it wasn’t too bad. Didn’t give him the benadryl, just watched him. (I was hoping it would clear up the extra fluid if he’d gotten a significant amount in his lungs, BB. Didn’t know that about the antihistamines and their effect on the immune system though, thank you!) They’ve all been given crocks of water in addition to their older bottles, thoroughly cleaned and rinsed and refilled, which Mimzy already almost emptied his by this afternoon.
  We’ve had some lovely afternoon rainstorms that have the dandies growing in the yard again for their last burst before winter. I’ve picked some fine leaves and flowers for them in addition to the evening greens. I often wonder which greens are better for them, the weeds from my pesticide free yard or the lettuce from the store.
  I think I’ll have to get the washers a little more broken in on those new bottles before I use them again. Usually keeping them full of water in the fridge for a few days tends to get them to loosen up. The buns are all getting a little lazy when it comes to making an effort to suck down liquids. It’s like having to stick their tongue out in the first place is enough exercise for them…lol.
  But in a few days they’ll get tired of the crocks and start dumping them…that’s when I’ll have to hope they go back to drinking from the bottles again. *sigh* Can’t win for losing.
  But yeah…it was s dumb thing to do. Won’t be doing that again. (squeezing the bottle I mean) Not that Mimzy doesn’t enjoy giving me grey hares…lol.

  How about planting greens in your pesticide free yard, then freezing them for the winter, Farmer MM?
  
  I am grateful to crocks because I never had any luck at all with those hanging bottles. Mine leaked no matter which brand I tried.
  
  I think they are getting exercise sticking their tongues out at YOU. Glad his Nibs is now OK.

  I would think home grown, pesticide-free trumps store produce. The longer from when it’s being harvested the more the nutritional value falls. You can dry greens too for the winter. I was looking at that galens garden site yesterday ( .co.uk ) and they had dried celery, parsley stalks, arugula stalks, dandies and nettles to name a few.
