since my rabbits like to overturn their food dish, i devised a holder using a few rubber bands. it held the container secure, until one morning when the rubber bands were gone!!! the buns seemed perfectly fine, so i figured the bands just were chewed loose and then flew somewhere.

well! i just caught one of them getting into some notecards (he broke through the bunny protection) and eating the rubber band holding it together!!!

i’m guessing he ate the rubber bands (which was about five days ago). he seems to be perfectly fine, but i’m worried that the rubber is just sitting in his intestine slowly hurting him…. has anyone else’s rabbit eaten something so strange like that before?!

Hmm if you know he ate them, make sure he is getting plenty of hay and water, and it should pass through his system. Just keep an eye out for him Andkeep rubber bands out of reach

You might try holding the dish with zip ties or twist ties instead. Not as easy to chew through.

            Totally agree with zip ties.

            Rabbits are naughty.

We have had posts about this several times throughout the years—seems as if some bunnies are not opposed to eating rubberbands! Anyway, though one member did get concerned because her bunny at three rubberbands and there was a gi slowdown which ended up okay, for the rest of the members who have had this happen, they watched and so far, turned out okay. If you see a slow-down or any issue, then I would call a vet.

As far as if a rubberband could do damage to a bunny’s intestines, I don’t know for sure, but I would figure it would most likely pass, however, I don’t know this for sure, and if were me, I would call my rabbit-savvy vet to ask.

Edited to add: Here’s Dana Krempels answer to someone else who asked about a rubber band being digested.   What is it with bunnies and rubberbands?!
