Well larger is better – remember you are going to be putting towels and blankets in it to keep him comfy and maybe some hay since it’s a long ride.

Get one that opens on top if you can – much easier to get them out that way when you need to.

I have the petmate – it is a great carrier, my only complaint is I wish it had a top opening. Sometimes it’s not a problem to get Koji out, but you have to spin them so their butt is facing the exit to lift them out otherwise it’s too easy for them to struggle. Even facing this way, they can put up a bit of a fight. I will say, he can’t seem to get his teeth on the holes in it to chew it, so that is a plus. My only other complaint is the locking device is really noisy – of course we use it so rarely it doesn’t really matter, but it screeches annoyingly. The ability to easily unclip the top from the bottom for cleaning is great, but its secure enough to hold it together when set up.

Someone with bigger rabbits may be able to help as far as size choice goes. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the first since that’s the same one I have (although in the small for my 2 pounder).

Well, that may be true when he’s at home, but when you take him to the vets and he’s nervous and doesn’t want to come out – that is a different story. I give my rabbit the carrier in his pen so he goes into it when he wants, or sits on top sometimes. But he still will refuse to come out at the vets… smart rabbit haha! But I know the top opening kinds are harder to find, and it’s workable with the front door. I’d just suggest getting a top door if you can find one large enough and affordable.

I got my carriers from PetCo… They are great! They are Dog Whisperer carriers, but the stickers come off so no one will know They have a top opening as well as the front door, and they come in lots of different sizes. i swear by em now.

They are a bit spendy yeah, I love the fact they have the dual doors though And they look nice too

If price is a concern, have you tried bargain shopping on Ebay, Amazon, and Craigslist? I usually find the best prices there. I got my crate off Ebay (new) for half of what it was on Amazon, and probably 30% of what Petco/Petsmart would charge for similar. There are also a lot of used carriers listed on craigslist in my area, in a variety of styles and sizes. I know setting up for a new rabbit is expensive, so save where you can!
