Hi. A month ago, I adopted my second rabbit, Tala, from a rescue shelter. She was a little overweight when I got her, and I had hopes of slimming her down. In the last month, she has basically established herself as the boss over my first rabbit, Tiki. They are both netherland dwarfs, but Tiki is probably 3 lbs and Tala was nearly 4 when we got her. He is a slight rabbit to begin with, but definitely always been skinny on top of that.

The problem I am having is that Tala eats everything in sight. If I give them a carrot as a treat, she will eat the entire carrot, greens and all, before Tiki ever gets around to having some. I have tried to intervene and give him the food on occasion to ensure he is eating it and she isn’t, but this isn’t foolproof, and I feel like chasing Tala away from food is gonna hurt us in the long run.  They also both get a fairly regular amount of exercise.

Any suggestions on how to regulate their veggies/pellets without having to separate these bunnies? They are very much in love, I would hate to pull them apart.

Your right, you don’t want to separate them but you can consider just separating them for meals. Maybe sit Tala in one corner and give her a share of the pellets and greens and then put Tiki in the other corner with his.

And chasing Tala away from the food would make him distrust you.

What normally happens too with bonded pairs is that the one who doesn’t seem to be getting their fair share of the food will manage to work it out with the other one to make sure they get their fair share.
