         HEY EVERYONE!!

        I am a new bunny owner. And I absolutely love him! I bought my bun from a breeder and he’s a about 9 weeks now.
        The breeder gave me a small bag of its usual feed and I bought a new feed called Fort-Diet for juniors by Kaytee at Petsmart.
        I have been mixing the new pellets with the old, but my bun is so smart and picks out only his old pellets to eat.
        What should i do?? Can anyone give me some advice.. I’m running low on my old feed and don’t want my bun to starve.
        And is my new pellet feed not a good brand??

          you should try Oxbow.its recommended by most vets.i personally dont like Kaytee because they sell some treats that are not even bunny safe so i dont trust them.i had that problem with my bunny too.youre supposed to transition them for like four weeks.

          1st week-1/4 of the new pellets and 3/4 of old pellets;
          2nd week-1/2 and 1/2;
          3rd week-3/4 new and 1/4 old;
          4th week-new pellets completely.

          thats how i did mine.i just followed the instructions from my Oxbow bag.is there any way that you can ask for more pellets from the person you got your bunny from?or could you buy a little amount of the old one.you just have to be persistent.your bunny will definitely pick it out at first but if u keep firm,he’d eat it.bunnies would rather eat whatever than starve.

            I was gonna start my bunny straight to Oxbow Bunny Basics T, but it was adult formula, so I don’t know if thats okay to use for my 9 week old bun.
            Does it matter??? The only “baby” formula i could find was the Forti-Diet Junior, so i bought that one.
            Do you think i could exchange it??

            Thanks for the help.. i will try to use less of the old then. i just did half-half and started noticing he would only eat the old
            and left all the new in the bowl. but when i refill in and mix in more old pellets he would do the same. “/

              Oxbow Bunny Basics T is for adult rabbits. My vet advised me to put my bunnies on Oxbow Basics T (timothy pellet) when they’re around 5-6 months old. Up until then she wanted the rabbit on a standard pellet, which is a part alfalfa-based pellet. I used Kaylor Sweet Harvest – the pure pellet one without seeds and veggies. My vet said the alfalfa pellet is good for the young weaned baby, along with giving it unlimited timothy and alfalfa hay. When they’re 5-6 months old, to switch to all timothy hay. Walmart rabbit pellets is also a good pellet for babies until they’re 5-6 months old. Bunnymum gave a good ratio of old/new pellets for transitioning. Hope this helps.

                My vet has had no problems with baby buns being fed the adult pellets, as long as they have access to plenty of them, as well as an alfalfa hay to mix in with their timothy hay to make up for the difference.

                My nethie girl Monkey has been on Oxbow Bunny Basics T since she came home at 7.5 weeks, and is healthy

                    Welcome to you and your bunlove!

                    Is the pellet the breeder gave you also alfalfa based?

                    What about trying to split his feeds over the day? So give him the 50:50 mix but not as much intially. Hopefully after he finshes his favorites he’ll be hungry thru the day enough to sample the others. Then you can feed him some more of his feed later in the evening.
