Ok, excuse my little rant…Today hubby and I got tickets to the San Diego Chargers vs Cowboys preseason game, all fine and dandy. We parked at a mall and had to take the trolley (a new experience). Got to the game, it is freakin’ hot! We had great 50 yard line seats, super close to the field and of course the row behind us is in the shade
. We wanted to get food but stadium food is ridiculous! We got two hot dogs and two margaritas- $31! We left the game at half time, since they took out all the starters anyway. We get back on the trolley and go to the parking lot…our car is gone![]()

. It got towed. Aparently you cannot park there and they have UNDERCOVER people watching you park and if you go to get on the trolley they come and tow your car! Disgusting people. We are now standed in downtown San Diego, with just about no money, and it is going to cost us $400 to get it out of impound now! Thank goodness we bought an all day unlimited trolley pass. Went to it must have been 10 different stops, found out we went the wrong way, go back on another trolley. The cars are packed with drunk people from the game, you couldn’t even move. Finally got to the transit station where we needed to get and found out that we had just missed the bus that heads north to our neighborhood by 10 miunutes. Get on another bus that at least gets us out of downtown. Called a cab, thankfully they sent a super nice cab driver who took us farther than the money we had. It only took us 8 hours to get home. Those 2 $25 tickets turned into over $400 trip that was supposed to be really fun for us. All this time I was wearing flip flops and now have terrible blisters in between my toe, and all that time the bunnies were out too! We left them out thinking that we would only be gone for a few hours and they are good anyway. Luckily nothing was destroyed or ruined and their dinner was only 4 hours late. What a strange awful day. Ok now I am done!![]()
WHAT?? How come they towed your car? That sounds ridiculous?-awful ![]()
thats rediculous
oops k&k already said that… now you REALLY know its rediculous.
Wow! What a day for you
Sucks that a fun day went sour like that. Stupid mall people.
How awful. I’m so sorry. (((Better day vibes!)))
Ouch. I’m glad you made it home safe and sound. Dang undercover towing people – I truly hate towing companies and I cannot believe they are going to charge you $400 to get your car out – totally ridiculous. I imagine they only take cash and you have to bring your insurance liability to get your car back too.
What a scheme, to sneakily watch people to then tow their car and give them the run-around and charge them an arm and a leg! Grrr! If they were watching you park there, they could have just informed you that you needed to park elsewhere… I guess it’s how they make money.
What a way to ruin it for you guys.
I am surprised Dennis didn’t manage to destroy at least one little thing, like tunnel into another apartment to look for more raisins there or something…
Seems like rabbits are more trustworthy than parking lot attendants!
I am sorry, Maddie… it was supposed to be fun…
It was supposed to be fun, but it is our rotten luck! Always happens! Oh of course we tried to pay over the phone last night and get a cab to the impound lot but Nooooo! It is only 2010 and they won’t take a card over the phone…
Of course there is the weekend gate fee of $89 added into that $400, and if we pick it up Monday we save $11! Woopie!![]()
I am so surprised that the bunnies didn’t destroy anything, nothing! The patio door was left open so they could go out, so I think they just went about their normal business!
I think the worst scenario would have been for Delilah to get to Dennis somehow. Maybe they just had the fun that you were supposed to have!!! LOL
Oh yes! I was so worried I would come home to another mauled bunny!
We finally got our car back today! It only took an hour long bus ride, two stops on the trolley, and a 5 minute cab ride to get there, plus the $400 to get it out! We had to walk 5 miles but hey, exercise right?! My feet are killing me…..
Ouch!! My feet hurt in sympathy. 5 miles is far too far for me these days! Glad you got the car back though ![]()
Yes 5 miles in 90 F heat! I was roasting! Hubby is a Marine so he was like, “Oh piece of cake! I wish I could have run or I would have been there in 15 minutes!” HA! I am sorry I slowed you down so much!![]()
Well, if thats the case, he should have carried you on his back then, hehe
He offered once but then I told him he would have been really exhausted! I know he carries guys for pt and stuff much bigger than me but I still would have felt bad, and what a sight that would have been! Uphill the whole way, it sucked! I had put like four bottles of water in a back pack, which ended up being much better than carrying a purse on one shoulder.
I’m still perturbed that they charge you $400 to release the car. That seems very excessive to me.
It was. A towing fee-$178, a dolly fee-$47, gate fee-$89, storage fee-$76, payout fee-$38 = $352. The car was only there for two days too, I would have been fine with that amount had it been there for like a week or something crazy.
Yeah, that’s totally ridiculous! I’ve been towed once and I think it was around $80 to get my car back. And it had to be cash.
$80! That would have been awesome! That is pretty cheap considering!
You may want to go into the towing business in San Diego LOL. Heck for what they charge you, you could be a millionaire!
No kidding! I really wonder how much they make…I told hubby the next time we will go and park in the same spot and I will get out and get on the trolley and I will have him sit in the back seat and when they call to tow it he can pop out and say HA!
I think they charge double to tow with a passenger LOL. I would be interested to know as well. I imagine their expenses are pretty high too – insurance, taxes, gas, licenses, etc….I imagine they must do okay though or else they wouldn’t be doing this job – no one likes these people who tow cars! Pretty low on the like list.
No one likes them unless they are towing a car that is in your way, upon your request!
The problem is that for most malls and parking lots there are signs somewhere in the lot about trespassing and towing etc. Legally they have the right to keep the lot for customers and patrons of the mall and stores and unless you’re actually at one of the establishments there they have the right to tow the car. Even if someone just decides to pull into the lot and sleep in the car they can still tow it because in effect it’s taking up a parking spot that someone wanting to go to the mall could use.
I can sympathize with being upset about the tow and the outrageous charge for it and all that you had to go through. But at the same time if I was a business owner and someone took up space in my parking lot and didn’t come into the store I’d be unhappy with that too. And obviously if there’s a tow company staking out the lot looking for this then they must have quite a problem with it. The $400 is.. absolutely outrageous though.

There were hundreds of other open spots. How could they have proved that we in fact did/did not go to the shopping center. The price was crazy, and we learned not to park there ever again! A security guard we spoke with said that the next time we go to a game to find him and he will take us to a “secret” lot where you cannot get towed. Everyone, security guards and workers from the stores, that we talked with that night said how shady it all was. Just a very odd weekend it turned out to be!
