Can bunnies wear cones?  If so maybe you can try and make one out of something.

the vet said the cones dont work very well on bunnies so the best way to do this was have her wear a shirt..

Hmm, well how is she removing it?

I was given a cone for Smudge, and had to take it off. Poor thing couldn’t eat or drink with it on

Is Hershey pulling at it, chewing through it? How is she getting it off?

Can you make it longer so it more goes all the way back to her hips, instead of just being like a little “vest”?  That might make it harder for her to pull off.

peeing on it is better than her taking it off. You can always wash it. And if it goes to her hips, then it shouldn’t be in the way of her peeing anyway.

I guess it is better that she pees on it, than pulling it off, so couldn’t you just give her a couple of long “sweaters” to wear?

Or maybe you could make two holes for her front paws, so you won’t be able to pull it off?

Oh good. Otherwise, all I can think of is a small swim ring…not sure it would fit around her neck, but it was all I just could think of.

I had to keep Lolli’s neck wrapped up and I considered it a feat accomplished if she couldn’t get the gauze off within an hour of wrapping her up. LOL I’m sorry I don’t have any ideas or advice for you. I just want to say that I know how frustrating it is. Those little buggers can get out of anything. haha

I think you could make 3 holes – one for the head and 2 for the front paws.  Then it would tie on her back.  So it would protect her front like a bib.  Sorry it’s hard to explain!

Mir, what about something similar to those foam shower hat things you get for kids to stop shampoo getting in their eyes?

You could easily make something like this with a sheet of craft foam and make the head hole the appropriate size.  You could cut the cone small enough so she can still groom most of herself and eat her cecatrophes but not able to reach the dewlap. The thing with clothes or bandages is I worry she’ll ingest some of it when trying to remove it.

I would try the applying the antibiotic ointment then. Nothing with pain relieve in it though. Even if she manages to lick it off, by the time she gets out of the clothes, enough should get absorbed to help and it won’t hurt her. It would save you so much worry if you don’t have to take her back since your mom doesn’t want to pay. It cost me $350 for sutures and medication for Lollipop and I was in the same boat – if she continued to do it, I would’ve had to re-home or put her down cause I simply can’t afford it. A $4 tube of ointment worked wonders! lol

Also, see about trying to give her more things to do. I think Lolli just needed a bit more mental stimulation so a paper towel roll and some other papers to tear up seemed to work.

I would not put any type of cone, collar, etc on the neck- since that is where the trouble spot it. I think soft fabric is fine- but absolutely nothing that could poke or rub on her neck. The sock idea sounds good.

Neosporin without pain relief stuff has been helping Smudge’s neck injuries to heal, maybe try some on Hershey’s ouchie?

I winder if it is the lack of hay making her tug at her fur. Smudge didn’t have any hay before I brought her home… being out of hay for 3 weeks just isn’t good.

I agree about the hay..hay and water. The very basics—two essential must have’s for rabbit health. I know your mother is concerned about vet care, but hay is another way to help keep the vet need away. Can your father afford to get your bunny hay?
