Try looking on craigslist and see if there are any local farms around you to get a bale. That’s the only thing I can think of without buying from the petstore. One of those little bags would only last me a day with my 3.

So your horse doesn’t have any hay either? I would contact the place you get your hay and get it as soon as you can, tomorrow if possible, and definitely before you leave for the other house. You must have realized you were running low on hay, right?

I use Orchard grass, but it’s from Oxbow, it’s isn’t from a farm (in the traditional sense…) I really don’t know much about horse hay bales and the different blends and all that because I’ve never bought hay in that form.

my dad is going to see if the hay place is open and we might get some on the way home from getting pellets! what if it is only mixed with alfalfa and there is no plain timothy? a little bit of alfalfa isn’t going to hurt is it?

That’s what they were on before right, timothy mixed with a little bit of alfalfa?

That should be fine, as long as the bulk of it is timothy.

I agree- you can’t switch to the all alfalfa hay- it is much richer than timothy/grass hay and can cause stomach upset.  I am sure your parents must know this if they have horses- and be familiar with the differences in hay.

well the stuff we have now is timothy mixed with alfalfa but its mostly alfalfa that wont hurt until we get some hay this week will it? ( its yellowish not green!)

I have to say that as long as it’s not spoiled hay, any hay is better than no hay. Especially if it’s only for a few days. If you can’t get any better hay and give the alfalfa, reduce their pellets even more. Make sure, though, your rabbits are eating the alfalfa
