I’ve been to Lowes and Home Depot…they aren’t carrying any wood stove pellets until fall  *blast!!!*

So I broke down and bought some Yesterdays New’s …Petco has “34 lbs” bags on sale for 16 bucks. That’s almost 3x as much as I usually pay…I was only paying 6$ a bag for the woodsove pellets but oh well for now I guess. My fault for not stocking up better for the summer. Now I will know next year…

I still have a little bit of stove pellets yet so I haven’t tried the “Yesterday’s News” yet.  Do you guys like it? Hopefully it abosrbs a lot of the smell!

I don’t like it as much as wood pellets, it’s very absorbant but I think the odor control is not quite as good. Or perhaps I like that slightly woody smell? Either way. I am in the same boat right now too, though, no wood pellets at the local home improvement stores. I think I’m going to look for a horse shop around here next week and try to get horse stall pellet bedding.

when i can’t get wood stove pellets i get feline pine it works just as good in my mind, just 10x more expensive.

I actually like it better than wood stove pellets…after a while I couldn’t stand that wood smell in my closed up room, but I find that yesterday’s news is really good with odor control and I only need to put 2 full scoops in each litterbox. I change them every other day.
With 4 buns though, I can see how the cost probably will add up quick.
Otherwise have you tried any feed stores? That’s where I used to get mine.

Yeah, what about horse stall bedding? Is there a place you can purchase that? I would give that a try too. Yesterday’s News – it’s just so-so for odor in my opinion.

My mom told me where we could find a feedstore to get equine bedding, but the one that is closest to me is closed on Sundays, and the one she was talking about is a 30min drive away. I just figured I would try out the yesterdays news and pay the extra money on it instead of gas. This bag should last me awhile. I just use 2 heaping-2handed- handfuls (lol say that 20 times in a row) and then the other half is hay. I recently bought an entire bale and I don’t like the quality so I am trying to go through it quicker so I can get something new. It has some pokie stickers in it and I don’t like it. A bale is a serious amount of hay… I asked my mom to take some to the barn to help me get rid of it even faster lol. But I guess that is pretty diva of me to think that I should get hay without some amount of stickers in it.

Have you tried just doing hay in the litterbox?

I could do that, I actually have a box with woodstove pellets under and mounds of hay on top. It’s all flat now from them eatting from it but I don’t see or smell pee/poop in it. They have 2 other boxes that they use. One in front of Bun’s cage to prevent poop warring and now one in front of Baggy to catch more poop warring. I really gotta get on this bonding stuff but I had a hang up with Bee and Bun then went on vacation. Blah.

But you bring up an excellent point…if I am dumping the boxes everyday anyways….and have an entire bale of hay that is only 20 bucks …why not just use hay.

                          I love you Beka.

In equine bedding? No. Horses eat off of it and lay in it too.

Woodstove pellets can have chemicals in them which make them easier to catch on fire. So you are safe with the equine stuff. Horse people are just as crazy as us about their animals so you can be safe with that.

Mocha, the money you can save is very impressive! You might want to figure out if you’ve got an area for storage, so this way you and your dad could pick up multiple bags and not have to make a special trip all the time. That’s what we do, and it’s nice knowing we won’t run out and have to go buy the expensive stuff at the petstore!

Lintini, I know a lot of people don’t like the wet hay smell, but yeah, as long as you’re dumping everyday, you probably won’t even notice it. In a pinch, it just might work :o)
