My newly adopted bunny, Kiwi, has urine stains on his bum and back legs.

The shelter had him on newspaper without a litter box and they let him sit in his pee.

Will these eventually fade?  I really don’t want to give him a bath, because he’s just getting use to his new home, but it looks so yucky!

It will fade, and when he sheds. Don’t worry

Ditto. It could take a few months. You can always try a dri-bath. Use corn starch and rub it into the fur, then brush out. It won’t remove the yellow but it might freshen him up.

It is something that will just eventually fade.  It would take a really strong shampoo that strips the haircoat to make a dent on urine stains- and I would not recommend that for a bunny.  As long as the skin is healthy- do not worry about it.  Rabbits groom themselves often like cats do- so they are pretty clean critters in a clean environment.

Some of my bunnies came with urine stained feet- and it fades pretty quickly once you get them into a better set up.  Now mine tend to get “green” feet from digging in their hay!

My boy Max also came to me with stained feet, altho his were more brown because the rescue allowed the bunnies to play in an outdoor area and dig in the dirt. After about 3 months or so of being strictly indoors, his feet became pearly white.
