So, I would like to try and find SOME sort of treat that Zeus loves.  But so far, as mentioned in my thread about getting him into a carrier, he’s just not a food driven bun.  Regardless, I’d like to hear some ideas for extra-tasty treats.

        I know these..

        – Raisins

        – Craisins

        – Banana Chips

        – Fresh fruit/berries

are common.  Zeus hates all of those.

Are store-bought treats THAT bad?  If they’re given only occasionally, are they acceptable?  Or are they a “don’t feed EVER!” sort of thing?

Haha, not even going to tell what my bunnies get of treats sometimes, because I will probably be banned forever. But of the more bunny-like things, I have found that alfalfa hay cubes make mine go just as crazy as if it were a raisin. So you might try that.

How about herbs? Does he like that? Basil, for instance? Or perhaps fresh willow leaves if you know of any trees near you?

On rare occasions, mine do actually get yoghurt drops. I got about 7 bags for Christmas from Molly’s previous owners, and although I prefer that they get dried papaya for treat,s they do actually get a drop now and then. Have you actually tried dried papaya? That is a huge hit here with all three, and Jack used to love it too.  Right now, they get dried strawberries, which they love.

I haven’t tried most herbs, but he doesn’t like Parsley or Cilantro, so I’m assuming he won’t like most herbs.

And let’s make this a “no judgement on treats zone”, I just wanna know what buns find tasty, whether they’re “allowed” or not!

I might try yoghurt drops, or dried papaya.  Where can I find dried papaya?

Dried papaya! They looove it. It took some shopping to find it without sugar added, but it’s worth it. I can get it with sugar added (which I have fed before, it’s just not ideal, but certainly no worse than craisins) at the regular grocery store, and then I found the no-sugar added kind at a gourmet grocery store. Both go crazy for it and it’s the only treat I use. If I feel like I’m giving too much, I’ll get out a little dish of pellets and hand feed those and they don’t seem to notice it’s regular pellets 😛

One thing that made mine go crazy was the leaves of turnip cabbage – it was quite amazing to see them go nuts about it:

Oh, and nuts of course. This winter I had bags of nuts, but after a while, I dropped eating them, because everytime I wanted to crack one, I had bunnies crawling all over me. It was mainly hazelnuts, but I think any nut goes

Karla; That’s interesting about the nuts!  I love nuts, so that might be an option.. we can share them!

I’d imagine those would probably be healthier than sugary treats like fruits and yogurt drops, too.

Nuts are actually super high in fat, so I don’t know if they’re necessarily healthier than more sugary treats. They might be healthier than yogurt drops, but I imagine regular fruit would be better because bunnies don’t usually eat high fat foods so they’re not able to process as much.

I feed mine these pumpkin treats I bought off binkybunny. Not all store bought treats are bad, just most are.

Try some dairy free acidophilus tablets. My rabbits love these – they come in banana, strawberry and blueberry. If Zeus doesn’t care for them then you can eat them since they are actually made for humans.

I would give the herbs a try like mint, dill and basil – my rabbits eat these daily as part of their greens and like them quite a bit.

Where can I get those?  That sounds like a good idea, and the probiotics would be beneficial for him too.
