hi everyone. i havent been on here in quite a while. back in april i adopted a 2 yr old neutured mini rex named ross. i took him to the vet yesterday for a reg check up and i was able to bring in a sample of his poop. they seemed strange to me bc they are pretty big and sometimes weird shaped. most of the time they are pretty wet and mush pretty easily. anyway, they just did a smear while i was there bc we were pretty sure he had something going on. the vet is treating him now for coccidia and we did a dewormer too just in case he has another parasite that wasnt picked up in the test.
ross lives in a pen by himself and he is in a room by himself. he has had a little bit of contact with zoey bc she got out of her pen 2 or 3 times. she didnt get into his pen but got into his room. zoey and julia are both having their poop tested and i havent heard anything back yet but their poop looked normal and nothing at all like ross’s. my question is, how do i make sure ross doesnt get re infected by his own poop? i recently put carpet down in his pen bc he chews linoleum. he is pretty good about pooping in his litter box, but there are always a few stray poops. his meds are for 20 days once a day. do i need to take his carpet out? do i need to clean his litter box every single day? do i need to clean it with bleach? i read something that said to use wire floors and cleaning them everyday with bleach. ross cant be on a wire floor bc he was on one in one of his previous adoptions ( he was adopted 3 separate times) and has pretty good size calouses and sore hocks. he even had a ripped off dew claw and the vet said it looked like he broke his bone. we think he got it stuck in the wire floor. so i really dont want to use wire. advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
