Guys, I know this is a rabbit forum, but I dont know where else to go. In the night, My guinea pig, Bean, managed to knock over a bag of hay. Trying to eat hay, he chomped on the plastic. A chunck of the bag as big as him is gone. I am worried he ate it. Any Suggestions?

UPDATE:He’s been ok for a couple days, because I give them TONS of hay and he dosent need anymore for a while. I hadn’t noticed it until 3 days later.

ANOTHER UPDATE: He is still eating and pooping normally. He’s also drinking water.

are you sure he swallowed it? have you completely cleaned his cage? maybe he hid it or it fell under his cage or something. It seems that if he would have swallowed it he would have showed signs of feeling sick. and it sounds like he is eating pooing normally so i would just keep a very close eye on him.

I’m not POSITIVE he swallowed it, but I haven’t seen it any where, plus there’s little bite marks everywhere as well.

a chunk as big as him you say? did you search for it? he might have torn it into little pieces and scattered them, but watch his pottying for next 24 hours.

Thanks! Should I give him extra hay? I heard it’s like a laxative for them

If it’s been 3 days since he ingested it, he’s most likely passed it all already.  Like someone else said, he probably just chewed it up into a million tiny pieces and scattered it.

Oh, and either way, guinea pigs should have hay in front of them 24/7 just like rabbits.

OK thanks. I think he did pass it. The only sign that could be taken as ickness is that he is sneezing, but my other guinea, Toot,(Bean=Toot! )
does too. My mom said its normal.

OK, he’s ok! I cleaned his cage, and he didnt scatter it, but he is still pooping normally.
