        Hi guys,

Been a while since I’ve posted.  It seems bo is getting pudgy and I am sure it is his diet.  He gets hay and greens daily and about 1.5 cups per day (over 2 feedings) of food.  How can I start to slim him down?  He is free roaming and is pals with the cats, but it seems all the critters are lazy these days.

1.5 cups of pellets? That right there would be the cause… time to cut down on the pellets

how big is Bo? 1.5 cups of pellets would be an enormous amount.

Not entirely sure on his size…

If we cut back the pellets, can we span it over 2 feedings? I feel bad he only eats ‘once a day’.

@ 8 months, he’s 6lbs from what my scale says. He is a mini rex. But he does have a chin, or could that be the dulap?

I’ll be back with more info

EDIT:  Sorry, got a new weight.  Didn’t realize I needed the scale holding thing on it to get an accurate reading.  Weight went from 4lbs to 6lbs, which is *overweight*, starting diet in the morning.

at 4lbs, 1.5 cups of pellets is far too much. Start lowering the amounts.. my dutch Moose is 4lbs, and gets a quarter cup a day currently, and I’m slowly lowering his as well. Don’t feel bad about the lack of pellets.. if they are hungry, that is what hay is for The more hay they eat the better!

Go slowly with the change so his body will have time to adjust. I have a mini rex and a dwarf hotot and they only get 1 tablespoon of pellets a day. Lots of timothy hay and leafy veggies though!

At 8 months you can definately start to cut down the pellets. HRS reccomends from 7 months. Is he on alfalfa or timothy pellets? Rexes are prone to weight gain and it’s not real good for their hocks carrying extra weight. I think you’re in a good position to tackle his diet now at his age.
