So, out in our yard there’s these bunnies that I’ve been watching since I was a baby. Two of them have taken residency in out yard. They hopped by the window earlier today, and I noticed one of them has a broken leg. Like, a seriously $*&!ed up leg. You can see the meat, the skin and flesh is gone and he is limping.

What do we do? Just let him figure it out on his own? Try to intervene?

If you can catch him a wildlife center may take him or of course a vet. but a vet will charge you. A humane society will likely euthanize him so it is up to you if you want to take responsibility for this rabbit. Is he a feral or a cottontail?

What’s the difference in a feral or a cottontail? From the images I’ve googled he appears more like a cottontail but I remain unsure.

A cottontail is a natural wild rabbit, always agouti (brown) colored. A feral is a domestic rabbit that was dumped, or the offspring of such rabbit. A feral can have any coloring, including agouti. I asked because this may matter if you ask the assistance of a wildlife center. They may only accept a true wild rabbit such as a cottie or a hare, and may refer a feral to the humane society.

absolutely cottontail, I first found it in its nest when it was <1 week old. I may be able to catch him here but it's raining hard as hell, and I am not sure where he is (him and his buddy are keeping pretty mobile but I did just find one of the pair, unable to see if he was wounded or not hopping behind a bush)

if you want to take care of him, to take him in, put out some food for him where you can see him and trick him into a situation where you can catch him

I just found this seemingly great link about how do deal with a cottontail — it covers many important issues and what things to be cautious of even when turning a bunny into a wildlife center .  I scanned through it, but was pretty impressed with what I read so far — http://www.2ndchance.info/bunnies.htm

OH and I forgot to add— scroll down and it does discuss wild rabbit injuries and what to do about it.
