Does any one know what brand the rugs at walmart some of you get for your rabbits? the $19.99 ones? because i am thinking of getting one because when mocha is running arround binking he slips on the blanket and screws it up. ( even though it is funny to watch.)

I don’t know what the particular brand is, but rugs are a good idea for some stable bunny binkying! We have hardwood floors throughout the house and without area rugs, it would be bunny slip and slide time (for Jack anyways) We also add rug padding underneath. (easier on human backs too!)

I have a few of those rugs, I used them for temporary cageing. I like the rubber backed ones not just b/c they don’t slip but they help from ‘accidents’ leaking through to my carpet. I have them for my dog as well.

I found one at Home Depot, a fairly big one (it’s like 4×5 feet), for $10.  I have it under Zeus’s cage to ensure that nothing leaks onto the carpet if he has an accident in his pen (although he never pees outside his litterbox now, not to jinx it!).

                What is rug padding?

I know there are those under rug anti-slip things, is that what you mean?

Hmm, okay, I wasn’t sure because I’ve never used them – or heard that they help with creaky human parts! That does sound like a plus, I’ve got cranky knees and hips.

I need to make a final decision between getting a rag rug and putting non slip under it or getting the cheap ikea rug thats flatwoven with latex backing.

Can someone with rubber backed rugs tell me – are they machine washable?? I geuss if it’s cheap enough it doesn’t matter, and I can just throw it out if there’s pee or spill accidents, stains, etc.

(also sorry to hijack the thread – I’m blaming the padding mention!!)

Well the rugs that Mocha are referring to are 5 x 7 and they aren’t washable. Mocha, not sure of the brand name but they are just plain old carpets nothing fancy or else they wouldn’t work. Very low pile rugs.

However, I have quite a few of the rubber backed rugs that I wash but never ever try in the dryer. I would go for the cheap rubber backed rug – I think the rag rugs are more appealing to the eye but they are slippery and even those non-slip things I think are hard to use and it’s just another thing to have to worry about – I’m kind of lazy I guess.

I use some cheap ones I got off of http://www.arearugs.com – look in the sale section. Then they look alright, easy to clean, and my little Furby loves it ;P

I get Walmart rugs for my buns- I never like to pay too much $$ cuz they always get the edges chewed off by my adorable BunBun. But they really need rugs over our hardwood floors, especially Nelli. She’s so furry, when she’s on the bare floor and someone startles her, she runs frantically in place for a minute before managing to take off.
Another good place for rugs is Home Depot- they have carpet remnants that are REALLY cheap- I got a nice 8X10 ft tan one for only $49. The edges are bound like a regular rug too so they look nice. The only thing is you don’t get as many nice patterns/colors to choose from- what’s there is what you get.

I use this rug form ikea. They are easy to clean, the backing makes it leak proof and best of all its is cheap!

I ended up getting a really nice rug from menards for $19.99. Not using at the moment because I need to clean some pee off it. LOL.
