My friend came over and we bathed their bums.  Both did really well and I think they feel better.   Neither one is really that bad and cutting out most of the treats is working.  I say most cause I can’t seem to not give the little beggars ONE raisin a day.  lol  I checked them today and no pooping problems.

There was no thumping or biting afterwards which is always surprising.  Especially with Eddie who doesn’t hesitate to let me know when he’s not happy with me, either with thumps, feet flicks or giving me the bunny butt.  lol  However, Lolli and I got into a fight last night of sorts.  It was night night time and she didn’t want to go into the pen, so she kept running out.  Went under the bed and refused to come out.  So I got something to try to prod her out.  She growled and attacked it.  lol  I finally managed to get them in the pen for the night.  sigh

Eddie loves his raisins and is begging for them and even giving me kisses to get them.  Cause you know if he gives kisses, I’ll think he’s so cute and will give in.  haha  He’s actually been a bit bad today and has been chewing on the carpet so I’m not really feeling the love.  lol  Yep, they’re back in the pen.

I am feeding them less pellets.  They really aren’t eating them right now.  They seem to go in spurts.  Sometimes they seem to chow down on them and I have to refill the bowl often.  Other times, they seems to barely touch them.   Which this isn’t a problem since I know they are eating lettuce and their unlimited hay.  But it’s just a bit odd.  lol

Good to hear they’re doing better. You know, you can always make one raisin seem like two by cutting it in half. Though the beggars will then want three right?! Try some dried willow or fresh herbs as treats.

I let them out for another hour tonite.  Eddie’s completely driving me nuts.  He keeps staring at me, jumping on the couch and nudging me, and running around me, begging……all for those stupid raisins.  I do not buy raisins too often and this is why.  He does NOT leave me alone if he knows we have them.  LOL

Lolli surprised me by letting me give her nose pets while I laid on the floor with her.  Then she came all the way up to me and sniffed me.  I figured after yesterday and this morning, she wouldn’t want anything to do with me.  lol   She hasn’t in the past.  Poor girl.

Would the oxbow papaya tablets be a better treat than fruit?  I know I’d still have to give them in moderation.  But I don’t want to spend money on shipping if they’re no better than real fruit.

I’d cut down on pellets more. It isn’t a bad thing if the bowl is empty most of the day

Too many pellets are often the cause of poppy butt and being overweight.  My Mini Lops only get 1 heaping Tablespoon of pellets once a day- and I don’t use a bowl- I put in on the pen floor so they “forage” for them.  It takes them longer to eat that way than scarfing them out of a bowl.

In fact I have stopped using bowls to feed pellets and salads to my bunnies.  I use bowls to make the salads- so I know how much to give and so I give about the same amount daily.  I use the bowls to carry the salads to my bunnies and I dump the bowls into the pens.  I do dump in one spot- but it is more like foraging than eating out of a bowl.  I dump in one spot because if the goodies get too close to the divider- Schroeder and Griffin will snag the other bunnies goodies if at all possible.

Katnip: Feeding salads without a bowl is an interesting concept, and my two will usually pull veggies out of the bowl anyways to eat them, but you don’t find that the wet veggies get “furry”? I only do a full vacuum of the pen twice a week, so by the second and third day, there is fur on the rug… And the wet veggies don’t make a mess of your flooring? You use fleece blankets that can be washed, but my rug isn’t washable. I can only spot clean it.

I always dump my rabbits veggies on the floor of their pen or condo. I spot vacuum twice a day though so I don’t have a hug concern with the fur. I don’t serve the veggies wet or damp though unless they come from the fridge with a little dampness. I figure a bowl is just going to get in the way and they throw it around or dump the veggies out anyway.

My rugs aren’t washable either Beka. My pen set up is just like yours.

Pepe’s I put on an old pillowcase folded in half on the rug in my bedroom – of course I find sometimes Pepe would rather lay in his veggies than eat them anyway but I like the old pillowcase because I can just roll it up and dump the leftovers in the trash and lay it back down and when it’s dirty, it just goes in the wash. So maybe think about that…

Just to add to the veggie serving conversation, although I’m sidetracking a bit from the topic…

I stopped using bowls for veggies because they always tipped the bowl towards them while they ate. I started using plates thinking it would be more convenient to eat from, but nope, they both still tip their plates towards them. It’s really funny, guess they’re kinda lazy. Actually it’s even funnier when they are about halfway through eating and decide to sit on the plate while finishing the rest…and continue to sit on it when they’re done…

A pillowcase is a good idea! I hadn’t thought of that!

I used to feed their lettuce on a paper plate to keep it clean. Honestly. Cause eating off the pen floor where they’ve pooped and stuff is just gross. But the lettuce would always end up strung all over the place, so I just put their lettuce on the floor now.

And as they keep dumping their pellet bowl over, I’m starting to consider just dumping the pellets on the floor to begin with. Eddie likes to dig in the pellets. And by morning, someone usually hits the bowl and tips it over. Sometimes you might as well give up trying to keep their areas nice and clean. lol
