Our city always has fireworks and usually it doesn’t last a long time and hopefully your neighbor’s won’t either. Luckily too, it’s illegal to shoot off fireworks where I live (unless of course it’s the city doing it).

I think all you can do if your neighbor is allowed to shoot off fireworks is to put him where you think he will feel the most safe.

I hear the fireworks where I live from the city but I cannot remember if my rabbits are scared or just annoyed. I’m usually annoyed myself with the noise.

I don’t remember my rabbits being upset last year. Although since I live on a hill they are banned in this neighborhood for risks of fire since the grass is all dry but that usually doesn’t stop everyone….

It’s those really loud booming ones that upset the dogs and cats. The dogs are going to be a nervous wreck. I can already hear Wickypom barking his face off all night…..oh darn I’m working!

Don’t move your rabbit. The noise along with being in a different place will probably cause her to be MORE stressed, than just dealing with the noise within her own familiar space.

Make sure she has a cardboard box or other hidey house for comfort. Try your best to soundproof the house, particularly having windows and doors closed (hopefully you have air conditioning in her space). Maybe a blanket draped halfway over her pen or condo would work to stifle some of the noise, or at least make her area a little more calming.

My buns will thump a little when the fireworks start, but they settle down. It doesn’t put undue stress on my pair, just kind of ticks them off.

Edited to add:  If she’s at all fickle as far as digestion, you might want to feed her a little earlier in the evening since she might not want to eat while they are actually going off.  This way her digestive tract will at least be moving.

Peter was fine on New Year’s — he was definitely on edge when they started but I turned on music and he pretty much ignored them after that. I’m also a little concerned about the 4th — I’m actually going to be out of town and he’ll have a trustworthy bunnysitter with him all weekend who has been warned to keep an eye on him Sunday.

Peter really only gets spooked by helicopters, of which there are many if you live in Oakland like I do. We’re also bracing for potential riots next week when I’m back (a controversial trial verdict is about to be announced). That should be interesting…

I was also going to mention playing some background music to drown out the noise, but something soothing, or what you like that the bunny is used to. (Rather than the Boston Pops playing the William Tell Overture on TV where they shoot off cannons at the end. Not soothing.)

When we had a dog afraid of fireworks we always planned to have the windows closed, AC on, and a radio and fan on to help cover the noise.

My bunnies do not seem to disturbed by fireworks.  But if you have Rescue Remedy and your bunny is scared or stressed you could always try it.

I don’t have to sit with my drugged huskies this year, and for that I have to say I am grateful, simply because there was nothing I could do that fully eased their terror. Fortunately, Jenna does not appear to be afraid of the outdoor noises when indoors.
I have one (drunk) neighbor who is already lighting mortars and the noisiest crap he can find. This will go on the full week, THROUGH the fourth because he is an idiot.
The bunnies were a little disturbed last night, but I had to at least crack the window open because the neat and humidity are unbearable this year. I turn on the radio and run the fan, it helps mask some of the racket.
Plus I get nervous about Hello Kitty, who hates being cooped up but I don’t feel safe with her roaming this time of year, nor New Year’s. Just too many jerks out there who like to terrorize animals with M-80’s.

I feel sorry for my nearest neighbors’ animals, they’ve got a whole barnyard over there; horses, goats, sheep, hens, cats, dogs, bunnies, geese, etc. Those poor things must be miserable.

I used to love July 4th as a kid. I absolutely HATE it now. It sounds like live ordnance in a war zone in my neighborhood and I’ve seen people light enough gunpowder to leave a CLOUD of exhaust that then settles over the whole area and stinks you out till the winds come back up.

There’s just too many stupid people in the world these days who shouldn’t even be allowed to buy this stuff. God forbid they light the forest on fire.

That’s what it’s like around here too and we live in a busy city, but personal and local fireworks have already started tonight. It’s not legal here, but doesn’t seem like anyone cares.  I don’t like it because of how close the houses are here. .  Someone’s back yard is basically my backyard. as houses are only about 15 feet apart.   (Thank goodness, my next door and back side neighbors — we are all good friends)

I do the same thing too with fans to help block out the noise, and so far that seems to be okay with my bunnies.  

RabbitPam, William Tell doesn’t end with cannons! That’s the 1812 Overture you are thinking of lol!! William Tell ends with the horse race music with the trumpets and french horns! hehe I couldn’t imagine playing the 1812 and having the percussionists blast off those cannons…you know they are loving every minute of it too!

Pepper disapproves of fireworks

We actually did not have very many fireworks! A few booms, but everything was done by 10pm. The bunnies didn’t seem to care at all.
