Frankie’s neuter appointment is booked for next week! Very excited to finally have it done – and I have found a great doctor to do it who is reasonable in price. Does anyone know how long I should wait post surgery to start bonding? I was thinking 4 weeks.

At least 4 weeks, gotta let those evil hormones calm down

Generally, 4 weeks, but read his cues too. Since Sully has already been neutered for awhile and they’ve been living side by side, if Frankie heals up and seems to settle down in 2-3 weeks, you might be able to start with some sessions… Or you can simply switch them between the pens each day… mix up their territory.

Agreed with Beka, you can read the signs of settling hormones easily. There is a test you can do to know how the hormones are. Use an old stuffy or fuzzy slipper and let it accumulate your other rabbit’s scent well (rub that rabbit’s fur on it). Leave it with Frankie then and watch how frantic his reaction is: if he goes into humpfest mode — it is too early for sessions but if he is just curious about the thing and mounts it only occasionally, you may start the introductions.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. Frankie hasn’t been humpy even though he is now 4 months. Sully wasnt either and I got him neutered at 7 months. Frankie does mark though, if I let him have free run time he will pee and poop outside Sully’s pen next to the litter box. The only time I have ever seen them nippy towards each other through the pen is when there is food involved. Sully loves food and gets extremely jealous if he sees someone else getting a treat! I will keep an eye on him after the neuter and stay tuned for my bonding thread!!
