I’m thinking about replacing Zeus’s litterbox with this:

        http://www.petco.com/product/15210/…SiteSearch

Right now he has a small “standard” litterbox with no rim.  He is having accidents (pee and poo) because while he understands he must go to his box to do his business, he doesn’t understand that his BOTTOM has to be in the box too!  He’ll occasionally put just his front end in and then go, or he’ll go with his bottom sticking out of the box.  I think if I offer 1, a bigger box and 2, one with a rim, it will fix the problem.  I don’t think it’s a behavioral issue, because like I said, he IS making a point to go over to the litterbox, he just isn’t aiming very well.

I’m just not sure if he’ll be able to get in and out of that linked one comfortably.  Anyone have that style litterbox?  Does it work okay?  Zeus is not REAL small, he’s a Mini Lop about the size of a small cat, so I think he could get in just fine, but I want to double check.

No, but also look at Target – that’s where I get my rimmed cat boxes from. I think they may be cheaper too and they work great.

Yeah I’m actually gonna check Walmart and see if they have any.

Yeah, that should be fine. I agree, you should be able to find them cheaper somewhere other than a pet store. I’ve even seen large plastic washtubs at the dollar store that would work as a litterbox.

Yeah I thought about just getting a container that wasn’t even designed as a litterbox, but I really want the rim on it because that will prevent him from sticking his butt out and peeing/pooping outside the box.

its probably not that he sticks his but out it is that when bunny’s pee they go in a corner and will back there butt up against the corner so when the litter box is short and they back up to go they go over the edge. the dollar one is fine. unless you don’t like the look of your bun sitting in a wash pan

Yeah that’s exactly what he’s doing.  He hops in, scoots backwards, scoots back TOO far, then goes out of the box.

yeah thats just how they go… its kinda weird… so you just need something that is tall on the edges.

So even if it doesn’t have a rim but is just taller/deeper than my current box, it should work.  I’m sure Walmart will have SOMETHING like that.  Thanks!

Well I went to Walmart yesterday and they didn’t have any deep litterboxes, only shallow but big ones.  So I went over to the “Home” section and found a dish pan that is perfect!  It’s nice and deep, but still doesn’t take up any more space in his cage than his previous litterbox did.  He’s going in it too and seems to like it.  Yay!

I use some of the bigger storage boxes for litter boxes, the ones with sides 6-8 inches tall, keeps them from throwing the hay around too. I found a 22 qt. box that just fits the lower shelf of the fridge I keep my veggies in. Seems like I hardly ever buy any thing from the pet section anymore

Yeah his food dish is just a little tupperware container I attached to his cage by punching holes in it and ziptieing it.

Bunny people should be pretty easy to buy gifts for, a box of nic shelving, some packages of zipties, cheap veggies….

Yeah it works well!  He had this feeder before:

                                        http://www.tractorsupply.com/pet-ca…b–2179546

But couldn’t fit his head into it very well.  The container I use now is shallow and wide enough where he can easily put his head into it.

I even have special fancy BLACK zipties that match the black bars and flooring of his cage.
