So this past weekend I bought everything to start a dandelion garden with the exception of the dandelions. I figured since they were pretty much a weed, it might be something I can’t kill. Well, I found out that there really isn’t a chance of finding any in FL due to the heat, unless they are brought from somewhere up north. Does anyone know another flower, or easy growing plant that I could replace it with? Or do you think I might have a chance if I bought the seeds online? The weather is going to be in the mid-high 90’s (F) probably until the middle of August, but we have been having afternoon rain showers pretty frequently. So far I’ve grown kale (but I think the heat is taking its toll) and I bought some parsley seeds (but I think I’m about a month late on planting those). I just wish I was a good gardener..haha

I’ll have to look into that parsley…

I ended up getting 3 Marigolds and 2 Purslane plants…I found them on that veggie list

Here’s my garden that I’m hoping will grow nicely!

If your bunnies like them, oregano and mint are super easy to grow.  I only put them in pots now because they invde the rest of the garden.  Basil loves heat, but would likely require lots of water.  This is an option too if you have good irrigation.  Cilantro is also pretty easy to grow.

catnip (that is in the mint family and bunnies will eat it generally) is a hardy plant and comes back year after year from re-seeding itself.

I have a huge patch under our deck from when I had some planted in boxes a couple of years ago.

Cute garden! I think it’s funny you planted purslane – I have tons in my garden and weed it out by the bucketful. LOL!

Basil dies out in the winter (even here in California) so no issue there. Parsley can go to seed and then pop up again in the spring, but I would not consider it invasive like oregano or mint.

                            http://www.johnnyseeds.com/search.a…=Dandelion

I buy my dandelion seeds from Johnny’s Seeds.  They are Italian dandelion, different from what you would find in the lawn.  This is the kind of dandelion that is sold in gourmet/organic stores.  There are a few different varities.  I have grown Clio and Catalogna.

LOL I would have sent you mine!! We just sprayed (we have tons and the lawn looks dumpy) and also we are removing them with these fiskars dandelion remover thingies. Three garbage bags so far, and not even a dent!

AAAnyways…I found marigolds and Nastarium easy to grow and my buns loved them. Trust me-brown thumb over here-surprised the plants in my aquarium are still living…maybe becasue they don’t need to wait to be watered Also roses are bunny friendly Don’t know how easy those are though
