Last night our friend Matt, and his girlfriend Erin, spent the night with us on their move from Boston to Chicago to start their residencies. They got to spend time with the buns and they really liked them! Erin, especially, wanted a pet at some point after their move, but Matt is extremely allergic to dogs and cats. They were thinking of a lizard, but lizards can carry salmonella, and they’d like to avoid that as they’ll be working with immune compromised patients. Despite Matt’s allergies to everything, he was totally fine around the bunnies – he petted Hannah and didn’t wash his hands even, and he was fine. He said he’s also not really allergic to plants, so hay might be ok for him (he didn’t stick his face in the hay bin, but he was around hay and didn’t seem to have any issues). He’s going to get allergy tested anyway, but I’m so excited for them.
They asked a ton of questions and they were so entertained by the bunnies that I think they may get a pair. Since their schedules will be busy, I suggested adopting an already bonded pair (and they would wait until their schedules settle down a bit). I know they’d make great bunny parents, and I really hope they end up getting one (or two) at some point. I’m glad they finally found a cuddly pet that might work for both of them.
