Pepe got his teeth trimmed last Wednesday and he’s still not eating! Usually he’s back to normal by the third day. Even this trim was very light compared to his normal trims. I’ve been doing buprenex, metacam, reglan, critical care and I know he wants to eat but he keeps dropping his food. The vet said to just continue with that for now….I’m worried because I don’t want to go through full blown stasis again.
It’s weird because he seems fine – he jumps on the bed and we cuddle (after I grab him) and he seems comfortable. And there some small poops. But usually he’s chowing down on those dang pellets he eats by now.
If he’s not better by Thursday, I’ll take him in again to double check the teeth since it seems like he’s doing funny jaw things.
Oh poor Pepe, I hope he bounces back!
((((VIBES)))))
Gosh, that sort of reminds me of what it’s like when you have dental work done. When the lip or cheek is numb and you have trouble talking/drinking/eating. Could he have lost some feeling in the mouth maybe?
{{{Pepe!}}}
Vibes for Pepe!!!1 Poor little man, hope he gets the nommies going soon.
oh Pepe, I’ve had so much dental work done, I completely feel for you poor boy. Maybe the gum was just nicked or something accidental like that. ((((healing vibes for Pepe and Sarita)))))
Keep us updated, Kathy
Aww Pepe. Poor man.
Leroy, Jeannie and I send snuggles and lots of healthy mouth vibes!!!!
eat pepe eat!!! poor dude
(((((((((vibes)))))))))

vvvvvvvvveeeeyyyyyeeeebbbbssssss
How is he doing now? Get better vibes.
{{{{{Pepe}}}}}}}}
Get better Pepe! Sarita, I hope he is already over the hill…. dental work — yikes!
I hope that Pepe bounces back and is his usual self soon. The fact that he still jumps up to be with you is a good sign, I would think.
((((Pepe vibes!)))) Stop scaring your mama! Hugs Sarita. Let us know how he does.
Pepe is the one in your avatar, right?
(((((((((((((((((Get better soon Pepe)))))))))))))))
How big is Pepe, Sarita? I’ve been trying to judge him by the NIC grids, to me he looks like a good sized bunny!
{{{VIBES}}} for Pepe!!
How is he doing Sarita ?
Pepe is my avatar bunny, Petzy – he’s about 8 healthy pounds Kralspace :~)
I fed him critical care this morning and medicated him and when I left he was mad at me and under the bed pouting – I’m HOPING when I get home he’ll have eaten those gnarly pellets he loves. If not, he’s back at the vet’s tomorrow – I’ve already called and warned them.
Came home and he still has not eaten and is even more cranky than usual. He was really bad last night and this morning when I fed him critical care. I’m going to have her recheck his teeth tomorrow too. So continued vibes for my cranky Pepe please.
I was wondering if something didn’t go quite right this time, so am glad you’re bringing him back in.
{{{{{{{{{{{{Get better, fast, Mr. Pepe}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Oh Pepe….please feel better! ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Pepe))))))))))))))))))))))))) Please don’t worry your mama (and all of us too) like this!
I’m with RP, perhaps the vet missed something? Either way, hope he recovers soon!
Come on, Pepe, have a bite. I hope you seriously get some good news tomorrow
((((prayers and vibes for both of you))))
Oh gosh, come on Pepe you must feel better for your mother’s sake!!! {{{{{{{{{{{{{VIBES PEPE}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Poor baby feel better!!!!! My thoughts are with you!!
have you been to the vet with pepe yet?
(((((((((vibes)))))))))
BBM, I took him in this morning. He’s such a weird rabbit – he is acting normal but a little grumpy but just not eating or pooping and not acting painful. He cuddled and slept with me last night and the night before and he’s been biting me and the pillows which seems odd if he had teeth problems still…but that’s the only thing I can think it would be.
Maybe it’s a case of sluggish GI motility that needs a few days to resolve.
Petzy, I give him reglan right after the procedure and continue that twice a day with the pain meds until he eats because of the last bout of stasis after dental work in hopes that would not happen since it took 2 weeks to get him eating then so that is highly possible. I just hope it’s not the case since I thought we had a good routine going with the reglan the day of surgery and hand feeding and all that good stuff.
Maybe Pepe wants you to take him to work with you where you can handfeed him little morsels all day.
Unfortunately I don’t think this is going to be a wish come true LOL. My brother brings his dog to work and she won’t leave my rabbits alone when I bring them and they beg not to come back because they don’t like her :~)
That’s not fair. You should institute rabbit days where the dog has to stay home.
I’d like the dog to stay home everyday! I’d like to institute a dog stay at home day everyday.
well isn’t pepe just a silly goose? i’m sure he’s enjoying the attention
i hope this passes soon!
literally, passes soon….come Pepe boy, show us some poops!
Hope she is feeling better today!!
Well the vet is not sure what is wrong with Pepe – she wonders if it’s an abscess or an infection in his gums – she doesn’t see any points. So….we are going to try pen-g shots in hopes that it clears it up if it’s a dental infection and continue the other meds. if he’s still not eating by Monday, we’ll have to go from there with x-rays and all that other good stuff. She looked at his mouth again and didn’t see any points.
Also, he has FLEAS! Well, the vet tech saw flea dirt! So I have to treat all the buns with Revolution even though they don’t come in contact with Pepe. I guess they’ve been tracked in from outside. Ugh…she doesn’t think this is what is keeping him from eating though.
Sarita, I know your hay is the best of the best (APD) but check it for fleas too.
Have a fecal float done Sarita because it just hit me that Pepe might have ingested the flea dirt by grooming it off and it could have given him tapeworms. It would take a heavy worm load though to cause abdominal trouble for a bunny.
Sorry, really gross, but it takes several poo samples to find tapeworm eggs, so hopefully Pepe will get pooping soon.
I did think about the hay too Petzy – I have had this box for several months from KMS so it’s entirely possible it is from that. I will talk to the vet as well about the fecals when we get him pooping again – do you recommend I do fecals for all the rabbits?
Personally, I only ever test one member in my pet species and if they are positive — I treat everybody. So when one of my dogs had roundworms, I wormed both dogs, and when Mops had mites, I too, treated Lint (I only had two rabbits at that time). The reason for this is that sometimes a parasite test comes back negative even though the animal is in fact infested.
I just looked at my Revolution leaflet and it does not treat tapeworms.
Okay, when Pepe gets to pooping I’ll have the vet do a fecal. I’m not entirely sure if the other rabbits have fleas or not but I’m treating them with Revolution as well.
There is also a blood test that looks for an antigen that is produced if tapeworms are present. Don’t know if they perform this test on rabbits, but you could ask.
Continued vibes for Pepe PLEASE – he’s still not eating :~(
Pepe, now you frightening all of us, please eat for Sarita!
(((((heavy duty vibes and prayers for pepe and you)))))
Kathy
{{{{{HEALING VIBES}}}}} I was researching about keeping bugs out of the hay & came across diametacious earth (food grade)! Hope I spelled that right! LOL! This type of earth is high in minnerals & kills all types of bugs! The edges are sharp but will not harm animals or humans! Not only will it kills fleas ticks etc, but also parasites inside the body! If you use very little dusting in the hay, when the animal consumes it, it works inside of them as well as protecting the hay! you can also use it in there cages to prevent bacteria! I also use eucalyptus oil & peppermint oil (pure) just a few drops of each in an ounce of water I spray everything in the house including the animals to repel fleas & ticks etc! I had found a tick on my Buttercup & the vet said I couldn’t use anything for a bunny, so being a natural health consultant, I researched natural alturnatives!
PEPE!!! What’s going on buddy?!
(((((((VIBES!!!)))))))
I cannot figure him out either – when I came home from my errands this morning he ran down the stairs which he has not done in ages. So I stopped and petted him and kissed him and put some cilantro in front of his face which he didn’t eat and went and finished unloading the car. Came back to look for him and now he’s upstairs stretched out under the bed – this does not sound like a sick rabbit to me.
I gave him his second pen-g shot last night – boy that was hard – it was hard plunging the med’s and he flinched – felt so bad. I think it’s the syringes but now I know what to do. I have 3 more to do. Plus I’m doing the buprenex and reglan twice a day and hand feeding him.
I am hoping and praying that he will start eating soon and if it’s an infection that pen-g will clear it up.
sorry I did spell that wrong, it’s diatomaceous earth food grade!
c’mon pepe…. eat already! (((((((((pepe)))))))))
Any improvement today?
That does sound very encouraging, like when you are almost over the flu and feel better, but haven’t gotten your appetite back yet.
Is he pooping normally by now?
{{{{{{{{{{Get better, Pepe}}}}}}}}}}}
Healing vibes for Pepe!!!!
I’m sorry I haven’t seen this thread before now, but I really hope he is doing better today!
Sending major munchie vibes! (((Pepe)))
What is going on with Pepe now?
He’s back at the vet today – I haven’t heard from her yet. I gave him fluids last night. I’m stumped at what could be wrong. He seems to have the desire to eat but appears to have trouble chewing – at least that’s what I’m seeing and the only thing he will try eating is the dill. Won’t even touch his pellets which is highly unusual since he’s a pellet pig. Makes me think he has a blockage again since he never acted painful then either – I imagine he just felt full.
He still stretches out and lounges and sure doesn’t seem to be in pain. He jumps up on the bed and will lay next to me and cuddle, tooth purr and groom me.
I did not give him his 3rd pen-g shot yesterday wondering if perhaps it was upsetting his stomach but that doesn’t appear to be the case…
Will she check him for tapeworms? They can cause a blockage in rabbits.
I’ll ask her when she calls me.
goodness… that’s so odd. good that he doesn’t seem to be in pain but why won’t he eat??? is he fasting for religious purposes perhaps? i sure hope the vet can shed some light for you this time!
(((((((((pepe)))))))))
I hope all goes well at the vet!
Any news??
Hi Karla, the vet retrimmed his teeth – she says they are very ridged and wavy and she could see he was trying to eat but otherwise grooming and acting normally so hopefully this will help. It usually takes about 2 days after his trim to get him eating normally – fingers crossed.
Petzy I asked about tapeworms and she didn’t think that was the problem.
Is he eating a bit today?
Not so far, but he was still groggy from his procedure yesterday – I’ll see how he is when I get home.
((((Super Healing Vibes for Pepe))))
I hope he is better once you get home!
fingers crossed that this trim did the trick!!!
(((((((((get better vibes for pepe!)))))))))
Come on Pepe, give your mom some good news.
PEPE eat for your momma, we are all really worried for the both of you! You poor lil bunny, we all know what it’s like to get work done on our teeth, & the stress that’s involved! Now it’s time to get better, your momma needs you to!
Poor Pepe, he just can’t catch a break can he?
Well, stiff upper lip and all that, Pepe boy…let’s see you have a little somethin’ to nom, hm? (((((((((((((((((((sends feel better and voracious appetite vibes)))))))))))))))))
((((many munchie vibes)))))
Come on’ Pepe, eat soon! Official order: “Nom Nom Now!”
It’s funny you mention fleas, I don’t know what is going on around here, but it’s the worst flea season ever. (and Jack and Viv haven’t been outside in a year) but it’s easy to pick them up from other animals, or even just from the grass outside. For the first time ever Advantage did not work on Jack. I thought it had to be from having sub-q fluids all the time, (maybe hydrated his skin more or ???) but the vet said that wouldn’t affect it, so we switched to Revolution which took longer to knock them out then Advantage did but it did at least work, AND we got a flea spray for the house from vet. (of course bunnies were secured away safely during the house treatment) That took care of it, but never have we had such a problem.
>>>>Loads and loads of eating vibes for Pepe<<<<<< Come one, Pepe, your momma is going to be very upset with you if you don't eat soon!
Pepe seems to be eating – he is eating the little fronds of the dill but not the stem and the basil leaves so that’s very positive and seems to be trying to eat the craisins – I hate to say this, but I’ll be happy when he starts eating those dang pellets that he likes so hopefully by today or tomorrow he’ll be eating those.
And the little brat was downstairs in kitchen this morning bothering the little rabbit I am rabbit sitting for a friend. Pepe has not gone downstairs in ages! The little rabbit is a REW netherland and honestly I don’t even think he knew Pepe was there – forgot to leave on the stove light for him last night and I think he has vision problems among his other problems.
Thank you for the continued vibes and concerns – I think he’s on his way to eating again!
Pepe will give you grey hair, Sarita.
Petzy, I think Sarita’s feeling more optimistic because I’ve never heard her call him a brat before 😉
I think I may be all gray by now LOL. I am feeling more hopeful Kralspace and Pepe is a brat. I’m sure Toby was totally confused seeing a big brown rabbit slithering around his pen. Of course I think Toby is confused no matter what.
Oh yes! Come on Pepe! You can do it! *breaks out pom-poms again for a nomming cheer*
lolz…Grey hares…er I mean HAIRS…lol. Yup. Definitely a side effect of bunny slavedom!
And wow…I never knew a rabbit could slither…that must be fun to watch! ![]()
Back from my little vacation… I was hoping Pepe would be entirely recovered!
(((Continued vibes!!!)))
well the little fronds of dill and basil leaves is at least something in the right direction! no kidding re:being happy to see him eating the pellets. sheesh. (((((((((more vibes to pepe)))))))))
ps… glad he is staying mischievous. good sign even tho he’s giving you grey ;P
I’m being cautiously optimistic at this point :~) I’m happy he’s eating anything.
will he eat some hay now too?
No hay…he’s not a good hay eater anyway. Seems like the only thing he will eat is the dill fronds and the basil leaves. If I see him eating I leave so I don’t distract him. Shoving the stuff in his face makes him grumpy. He was excited for craisins this morning but I think he’s not able to eat those yet either. The vet grinds down his molars as much as she can but she’s afraid to go to far for fear of causing abscesses.
Would he eat the pellets if you made a slurry of them for him?
Perhaps you need to cut his veggies into tiny pieces? Jack used to have his veggies cut into small fingernail sizes, but once he had problems with his molars, he refused to eat anything unless it was cut into even smaller pieces (except for basil and other herbs though that didn’t require chewing as much).
{{{nomming vibes}}} *hugs*
I bet you could make a veggie slurry, too. Don’t athletes sometimes use greens or fruits in a food processor and blender to have a green health drink? Maybe some totally ground greens and carrots would taste good to him. A veggie smoothie.
[[[[[[[[[[[more nommie vibes, Pepe}}}}}}
Sending some more vibes to Pepe.
{{{{Get Better Pepe}}}}}
yes a green smoothie! you can chuck in his fav greens, some water and a teeny bit of fruit to sweeten the deal
Thanks for the continued vibes and advice. I know he won’t eat the pellet mush because I put it down and he ignored it – I guess he doesn’t really know what it is unless it’s a syringe. He’s still eating the dill fronds and he’s pooping a little. I think this weekend I’ll just pump him up with critical care. He has the desire but I think the teeth are now still sore from the last grinding. I prefer to have him eat as much as he can on his own though since it’s less stressful. He’s getting all the dill in the house right now.
If I did do a green smoothie, I’m sure I’d have to syringe this for him as well.
He is climbing in bed with me and we are grooming each other and he’s resting with me. It’s not terribly comfortable for me, but if it soothes him then I’ll just have to take naps during the day :~)
It sounds like Pepe is getting the best of out his sick days with his momma
That’s really nice to hear. I really hope he will get better soon, and you sound hopeful which is so great to hear.
Do you give him metacam? I guess you do because I recall that you have used that before.
when i give pinky a couple tablespoons of my green smoothie she licks it right up… but ya, if you had to syringe feed it… well… i know how stressful that can be!
you’re so sweet sarita… such a good bunny mum
(((((((((pepe)))))))))
Aww…I’m a bit jealous…your bunneh gets beddy snuggles with you! ^_^
*sigh* ‘Wish Mimzy was good enough for that and wouldn’t just ‘ninja pee’ whenever his feet hit the blankets!
((((((((((((((((((feel better toofy vibes, Pepe!)))))))))))))))))))
