Is the procedure of spay more dangerous when it comes to dwarf bunnies?? I mean because everyone says that they are more nervous than the big sized bunnies. Plus the size of their body (so all of their organs) which is small does it make the spay more difficult/dangerous???

The vet (yes yes the one from the other thread) also mentioned that the size makes it a bit more dangerous. Is this true??

Yes and no. That the smaller the pet, the more difficult it is to do surgery.

That link I posted in the other thread mentioned this as well:
“Size is a factor in anesthetic deaths, primarily because it is easier to chill a smaller patient during surgery and because the smaller the patient, the more critical minor variations in measuring anesthetics becomes.”

However, when it comes to bunnies, I have to say that I don’t think the difference is so big, as they are small no matter what breed.

Oh, Bougatsa, I wish I could tell you something that would make you feel better and come to a decision, so you don’t have to worry about this so much. Heard from the vet?

No he hasnt replied yet. So that adds up a new question to ask the vet…if they’ve spayed dwarfs in the past.
Karla I dont know it seems like all the odds are against me. Why does this have to be so hard…Oh god if I knew all these I’d get a male big sized bunny….not that I dont love my little baby but it would be an easier decision…

My little Monkey is a dwarf dwarf… by that I mean she is a netherland dwarf, and a runt at that! She is all of 1.5 pounds, and she pulled through the spay just fine

It’s really only as hard as you make it.. just weigh the pros and cons. In my mind, the risk of cancer is worse than the small chance they could pass while in surgery. Sorry it’s being so rough on you

Bun’s a dwarf. She came out just fine from the spay as well. She’s a little trooper! The risk of losing her way earlier to cancers than a natural old age death made up my mind for me. I want her to be with me 10 years or more, not 3 to 4 years.
