awhile ago, i went on spring break and let my friends who i got mocha from pet sit my buns. ( and also the cats) they came over and i showed them how to do it. i told them 2 1/2 scoops of pellets, ( its a small scooper) 1 zip-lock of veggies ( i had made up before hand) refill the water dishes, and put a big hand full of hay in each litter box. after they went home they called and asked  ” do you want us to change the bunny’s litter boxes?” i thought about it and we were going to be gone about a week and i wouldn’t want my room to reek wheen i get home so i said they should, and told them how. the next day ( i hadn’t left yet) i lifted up lulu litter box to clean it and i saw she had been peeing over the edge and there was pee under neath the box ( this was before i had a cat box with a edge  on it)  so i called and asked them to check under her box every day to make sure there was no pee under there and if there was to wipe it up with paper towel. i had put up signs in my room, like ” 2 1/2 scoops of pellets” and  ” litter is here ” and i taped the BB pet sitting guide on the door with a sign above that said “PLEASE READ” and it had all the information on what to do and our phone number that they could reach us at. when i came home i found there bunny’s food in there food dishes! it was the mixed kind of food! they said they ran out of pellets but the thing is i had it in like a cat food container that i had filled about a month before and it was about half gone when i left and some how in a little over a week they had ran out of half of it! i think they thought i was feeding to little of pellets and gave them a full dish! ( i am not positive but how else would of they gone through that much pellets in a week!) then i decide to clean the cage and i lifted up lulu litter box and it was covered in pee! they must have looked! and i know it wasn’t all from one day cuz there was way to much pee. then i notice that they had set the hay bag way to close to mochas cage and he had chewed a  big hole through the bag! i am the most upset about the food! if they new  it was gone why didn’t they call me and asked were the food was! i was really upset i was crying in frustration. any way the thing is we are leaving on Friday and not coming back till Monday, so we need a pet sitter. i am not asking the people who  did it before. we are asking the person who we got lulu from. but i am a little nervous for she is young and she wont have help from a grown up and she is the kind of person who wouldn’t do every thing. and she isn’t coming over before hand i just have to leave a detailed list! i am so scared. i just don’t know who else to ask. what would you guys do?

sorry it was so long. thanks for reading!

that’s a tough situation. if you absolutely cannot find anyone else, make everything extremely simple. don’t ask for litterbox cleaning, you won’t be gone that long. Have her do just feeding, the bare minimum, the basics. don’t make her read too much either. most importantly make her understand that Lulu and Mocha must be kept separate in your absence.

What do your parents think of the pet sitter? Who will be looking after all the cats?

We are going away this summer and I’ve figured out that I need to set everything up in such a way so there’s no way the pet sitter can mess up:

Have the veggies portioned out for each day in the fridge. I already wrap veggies in paper towels, pre-portioned for each day to make the morning easy. They are grab, wash, and go…

Have ziploc bags with the correctly measured portion of pellets for each day, so all they have to do is pour the contents into the food dish.

Buy new litterboxes that can be pre-filled with litter, so all the pet sitter has to do is halfway thru the week, remove the old boxes and replace with the new ones. (The old ones can get sealed into a garbage bag for you to clean out when you get home.)

The issue my two are going to face is that the petsitter can only come once a day.  I always feed pellets and veggies 12 hours apart b/c Meadow gets gassy if she has them at the same time… So I need to figure out how I’m going to manage this.

yes mine will only come once a day to. you have a lot of great ideas on how to make it simple. thanks! i only have three litter boxes that are tall enough though and i would need four so i think i will use an old bin. i just wish she could come over so i could show her what to do.

the same person who takes care of my buns will take care of our cats and our horse.

If your parents trust this person enough to take care of their cats and horse — you don’t really have a choice. Just leave very clear instructions about your rabbits’ needs. Call her to check on things too while you are gone.
