I was taking Ben and Addie outside to run in the grass tonight and there sat a wild baby bun right next to their enclosure. The little sweetie let me walk right up and put them in their pen. He/she stayed right there the whole time, eating and sniffing the buns.

What a beauty. I guess he/she could tell she was safe in your yard. I bet she was full grown though.
We’re out in the country, on a dead end road with only 3 other houses. We have fields out in front and woods behind us. So this bun doesn’t have to worry too much… not like the buns that run around in the city.
We have a couple that hang around. My wife says she see’s this little guy pretty much every morning when she’s heading out to work, and there’s another we think is living under/around our shed. There’s a big size difference between this one and the other. I kicked (not literally) up 2 babies out of a nest about a month ago while mowing. We’re fairly sure this is one of them.
Awwe! Thats so cute!
I love how the pictures really clearly show the bunnies are interested in each other. :3
That’s so neat!
These are great! You should send them in for the photo gallery. Thanks for sharing them.
Oh wow! What an amazing moment. You’re lucky to have experienced that. We have wild bunnies all over the place here in Colorado, and we love them! We saw one on some steps today and he let us come close before he bounded away to hide under a bench : D
Wow, amazing.
Definitaly a BIG difference between wild and domesticated bunnies…
I wonder if wild bunnies binky ![]()
Those are such cute pictures!!!! It’s really interesting to see the difference between a domesticated bunny and a wild bunny – head shape, ears, body type…
You should treat your bunnies with a topical flea prevention if you do not already- advantage or revolution. Wild bunnies are usually loaded with fleas and/or ticks.
What a neat moment and caught on camera! I guess, the wild one knew that the others were his kind somehow as well…
Very cute pics!
Katnip good point.
I want to emphasize that you should definitely not use Frontline on bunnies! It will kill them.
So cute!!!
Can I ask how you guys deal w/the grass outside?
I am moving soon with a yard and i’d like to see buster in a pen outside in the yard for a few minutes. What if she eats the grass? I don’t know if there are any pesticides on it from the previous owner.
The issue with grass, especially depending on where you live, is that even if YOU don’t put anything on your grass, chemicals can be spread thru the wind or water run-off from other people’s treated yards. I would not put your bunny outside for the first year since you don’t know if anything had been put on the lawn before you moved in. In the meantime, pay attention to your new neighbors and try to determine if they’re treating their grass, or if you introduce yourself, you could come right out and ask.
thanks Beka! I’ll keep her on our deck for this summer ![]()
Oh yeah! If you have a deck, that’s great! Have you seen the pics of Petzy’s deck? She has it all chicken-wired off around the railing to make it safe.
Those are great pictures!
The wild bunnies hang out in my yard around my place as well, I think b/c they smell the other bunnies there, they think it’s a safe place. But our wilds are not out when we are.
All my pets have never had a flea where i live, they are all indoor pets, who get playtime outdoors. So I think it depends on the area.
amazing pics!!! i love how the buns look ‘in sync’
wild bunnies DO binky! i’ve seen it before… so cute ![]()
We moved in back around the end of November. I knew the previous owners and I know they didn’t treat their lawn. I do treat it now, but I don’t do the side where I keep their enclosure. I’ll move it around every 2~3 cuttings, allowing the grass to grow a little higher in the enclosure. Addie and Ben don’t seem to care too much about the grass height, but when I take Nessa out, she just goes to town. It’s like watching a goat chow down.
We haven’t had a flea problem yet. I do worry about it, though. I never applied anything to the buns in the past. I thought I had read at one point or another that about not using topical protection on rabbits.
Is there anything that is safe?
Advantage or Revolution are bunny safe. I think the kitten formula.
Amazing pics! Kind of sad though, it looks like he wants to be one of the gang!
Aw I love your photos. I wonder what they were discussing ![]()

Oh my goodness that is adorable!!
We have wild bunnies in our back yard, and while I never let Lucy outside, she does look out our window, and I am just waiting for the day she sees them. I can’t wait to see what her reaction will be!
