Baxter and Bella went to the vet today. I really liked the Dr. They are healthy! Baxter is definetly ready to be neutered! He had his blood work done today. They are going to let me know how that went tomorrow. I have to get some fecals from each of them to be tested to make sure they have no parasites. All in all it went great! Boy is it expensive though! It will be around $200 to get Baxter neutered because I already paid for the blood work. It was only $39!!! Bella is going to be $354-$404.

Yeah, it’s pretty expensive for the spays and neuters. Alot of it is the gas that they use for anesthesia and that they have to be much more vigilant during the procedure. I’m glad you like the vet, that’s so important too.

Glad they’re healthy! I agree with the others that the price sounds pretty normal.

Yes. it is normal…but still expensive lol. I am happy that I found a vet that is so rabbit savvy. When I walked in there, someone was just checking thier angora rabbit out. He loved Bella! He was talking baby talk to her and petting her.lol It was kinda wierd. He informed me that I am feeding my bunnies the wrong kind of pellets and way too many! That was good information. He gave me litterature on rabbits and an Oxbow catalog. I am going to get Baxters neuter done as soon as I know the blood work came back okay. *crossing fingers hoping it comes back good*

oh, one thing they did that I wasn’t sure how I felt about it was that there was a dog barking in one of thier kennels and they were affraid it would scare my bunny while they were taking his blood so they sedated the dog. Is that right? I didn’t really know what to think of that. I don’t think I would be happy about that if I was the owner of that dog. How would you feel?

Are you sure they actually sedated the dog or just sent someone back to calm the dog down?

I was in the room talking to the vet and his assistant took Baxter back to draw his blood. There was a smaller dog in the kennel yiping and barking. The assistant came back in the room and said that it will be a little while because she didn’t want the dog to scare my bunny so she was going to sedate him. She actually said sedate. The vet was sitting right there and didn’t have a problem with it. Now, the dog was there because he had something surgically done to him. He kinda sounded like he was in a little bit of pain.

Hmmm then they probably did give him a tranquilizer or something. Here’s the thing, if that was my dog that was barking its head off and in pain, I wouldn’t mind if they sedated him while he was at the vet – as long as they did it safely. They vet is there to treat ALL the animals at the clinic, and it would be a shame if your bunny panicked or had a heart attack from something preventable. Depending on the way the clinic was set up, the table in the back could have been sitting right in front of the barking dog’s kennel. And if the dog was in pain, it was probably more humane to sedate him to help him relax until the vet could do his surgery.

It is possible that they were going to have to sedate the dog anyway for a surgery or treatment.

Well that is great you found a good vet! I wouldn’t worry about the dog sedation thing, they wouldn’t go around doing that if it wasn’t necessary. That dog could have been recovering from a surgery and needed to be sedated so it can’t hurt itself or rip out stitches. I mean who knows what the situation is!

All the loud noises were a worry for me when I brought my buns to the vet – but as soon as they told me they had a “vet bunny” that lives there during the day with them and lived on the other side of the office where is it quiet; I knew they were going to be in good hands.
