I think in my area we have a lettuce recall right now because of e.coli…. Just wash the veggies really well – which you should be doing anyway… And be sure that you don’t buy any of the brands involved in the recall or the salmonella/e.coli/etc. problem.

If you’re still concerned, just feed different veggies until everything clears up – cilantro, parsley, kale, spinach (though a bit back there was a problem w something in spinach too), mustard greens…

Don’t say exactly where you live, but may I ask what state in what country? I believe I read an alert for Romaine lettuce produced by certain brands, which I don’t get in my grocery stores here, so was wondering if it was confined to a specific region.

I live in New Brunswick but all our lettuce this time of year is from US. I’m worried because none of the lettuce is labelled with the brand.

The alert for romaine was only certain brands and only the pre-packaged stuff. If you buy it unprocessed by the head, it’s fine.

This recall salmonella and ecoli stuff is so worrisome.   Hopefully we won’t have a bad year with recalls.  I would rather it be recalled than eat it and feed it to my buns thats for sure.

BT, I am finding that there are several fresh vegetable markets here in FL that have fantastic heads of lettuces. Huge! I haven’t given her store bought in a while, thanks to local growers. Even Publix has some giant, fresh produce in the bigger ones.
