my bunny had her spay done this morning. we picked her up at 3, when we brought in our chinchilla for his check-up.

pantala is just laying around. i actually moved her into the litter pan because she peed and her hind feet were soaked since she was laying in it! she has a full dish of pellets and fresh water, and i even gave her some greens, but i havent seen her eat or drink. i gave her her first dose of medicine, metacam, about 45 min. no problems with that.

Female rabbits usually don’t eat much the first 24 hours. If she doesn’t eat b tomorrow though, you’ll want to take her in again.

They also recover from the procedure with the softer foods first, as well as treats. So the pellets will be the last to be eaten. Give her her favorite greens, and maybe a small bit of washed fruit, like an apple slice of banana, so she can get fluids in as well as keep her stomach moving. but by now she should be ready for her greens. Make sure she has hay handy and easy to get to. Keep everything within easy reach and on one level. She’s sore, even with metacam for a couple of days.

i’m at work, but hubby said she wouldn’t drink for him, but ate 4 carrot sticks…and she’s still laying in one spot.

a tech from the the vet office called, and the dr will call back tomorrow to check in again.

Its like a C-section for them, so they take a but longer to be feeling better. She will most likely give you the stink eye for a couple of days as well!

she’s better, getting back to being herself.

she’s eating & drinking normally. still moving around a little slow though, but she’s doing binkies in her cage! LOL

                            thanks for asking!

Wow! That is scary. I didn’t know it was that extreme. It’s better for them in the end though. Makes me kinda sad that my Bella will have to go through that though. I hope your bunny recovers well!

The spay procedure removes the uterus and the ovaries.  The uterus us the site of most of the cancers that female rabbits can get, and the ovaries produce the hormones that lead to excessive territorial behavior.  The buns are given fairly powerful pain killers during the surgery, which is why they are so out of it when they get home and don’t usually eat right away.
