         Hello!!

Been reading all your fabulous posts, I think I’d be lost without this forum!

Well, Suki was spayed today! The poor little thing, what a bad mummy I am! So yeah, took her in this morning and picked her up after 5pm, with pain meds (Meloxicam), antibiotics (Baytril) and gut motilty meds (Zantaz syrup). Also a sachet of Protexin probiotics to add to her food/water. The nurse didn’t tell me that was included, was just in the post op pack.

She had some greens at the vets, and has managed some water when bringing the bottle to her. But other than that she’s not moved, pretty much still out of it! Her incision and stitches don’t look *too* great, there’s a lot of dried blood as they used glue for the sutres too, so I think some got caught up in the glue We were given a cone too, but I don’t want to put that on as it’s too lose, so it’s likey to ust come off, so we may try a belly band.

She’s having a good little clean as I’m typing this… I’m just waiting for her head to move down to her belly! Fingers crossed she won’t…but eep!

I’ve out down some wet baby spinach leaves and peppers, she enjoys that often so I’m hoping she’ll take to that. The only thing I’ve noticed is her left eye is constantly shut whilst her right is wide open…maybe it’s just a little swollen as she’s still drowsy!

I’ve pretty much moved everything over to one corner of her cage so it’s all in easy reach…. please tell me if you think I should be doing anything else for now….. I think I see a couple of new poops from where she has been sat…. might be a few old ones though!  I’ll keep on updating with her progress, but right now I’m being a nervous mummy!!

Vibes to Suki. And calming vibes to you. Spays cause such anxiety for us bunny parents.

Thank you! Not going to try the belly band right now…….far too tender and sore, and one very, very peed off Suki!! I’m just so worried I’m going to wake up to a bloody mess tomorrow morning :-S

It is very scarey, that is for sure. I know I kept on looking at my girl’s incision every half hour and even called the vet a couple of times because I was afraid that it was opening up. She, on the other hand, didn’t really care. She laid around for a couple of days not moving much and then she was her old self again.

She might just have some extra goop that the vet puts in the animal’s eyes to protect them during surgery, so that should be okay soon. If not, talk to your vet. The fact she even ate soon after surgery is good sign. It does take longer for females to recover but it sounds like you have a good vet who is on top of everything – pain meds, gut motility etc. That is wonderful.

She won’t want to move much for the next day or so, but as long as she’s nibbling on things then that is still a good sign.

Here is a good link from the HRS will helps you know what to expect post-surgery — it addresses how females will differ from mailes as far as recovery goes. http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-neuter.html#pre-post-care

Healing vibes to your bunny and peace vibes for you!

                Keep us updated.

                   Ah thanks

She was a lot brighter this morning, took her meds really well, and hubby has been home with her today and said she’s been nibbling and drinking here and there. She seems very drowsy again now but I put that down to the meds. She’s currently slobbed out in lying down sleeping. This must be the first time I’ve ever seen her sleep! We have an appointment Friday evening to check her over, so will mention her eyes then, but it’s probably as you mentioned.  I’ve also shrunk her cage down (we use cubes) a great deal so she’s not got that extra space to move, as I know if she’s given  the space, she’ll use it

Thanks again and will report back tomorrow or Friday!

                      Thanks BinkyBunny

She is fiiine. Trust me to get all over the top about it. Although still a worrying time, she picked up within a day or so of writing these posts, now drinking and eating plenty, and back to her usual binky self, minus the peeing on my feet  She took to her litter tray almost immediately, so all in all no interruptions, and she should be getting her stiches out tomorrow

Apologies for posting in 2 forums, I wanted to make sure I covered all angles in case people did not see it  Thanks again everyone
