        Wowza.

So I know I’m kind of getting a little thread happy (I’ve started 4 and for me that seems like a lot, but I think it’s because I’m starting to get obsessed with rabbits, haha), but I wanted to tell everyone that helped me out with the “taking an unsocialized/aggressive rabbit to the vet” thread the news.

Victoria is apparently a very good girl.

And my new vet loved her.  XD  It was awesome.  Dr. Jen reached in, patted Victoria (no thumps, no boxing) pulled her out, weighed her (3.75 kgs) and it went really smooth.  She said that Victoria seems perfectly healthy, her teeth are good (I was slightly worried because Victoria likes to move her chew toys around, but doesn’t ever seem to really chew them).  YAY!

I asked questions about the spaying procedure, how many has she done, do they offer bloodwork before, how do they monitor the patient throughout.  It looks really good to go.

The rough estimate for the spay is $283.  I think this is added insentive to adopt a rabbit from a rescue that already spays and neuters their animals, because it will probably cost less to adopt a rabbit than to spay one,

I’m going to go through with it though.  I knew in general that it was expensive, but that doesn’t change the fact that I think Victoria will be happier, live longer, and be more manageable once she’s been fixed.

How much did you pay for spay/neuter?

You know, that price is pretty realistic. The spays can be up there, sometimes close to $400 in some cities. In my town, very rural, they cost is about $160 which is cheap. It really varies.

In my area it’s at least $400. The rescues get a discounted price of $200, which is still a lot.

            Glad she was healthy!

About the chew toys – I wouldn’t worry. Hay is what really keeps their teeth ground down. The chew toys are more for entertainment than anything else 😛

I think Monkey’s spay came out to around that, after I added extra pain meds and sub q fluids and pretty much everything I could to make it an easier time for her both in and after surgery. And that was the cheapest in my area. Other vets nearby are charging 300 or more.

A vet service out in Purceville, VA does rabbit neuters for $105.50 through the Spay Today program out of Charles Town, WV. That’s probably where I’ll take Stormy, even though it’s a drive.

Haha, well I guess it’s neither the cheapest, or the highest, so somewhere in the middle is good. It will probably be done in a couple of week, I’m oddly excited.
