Reddish orange pee is normal, but watch to see if she’s peeing in the litter pan and straining at all when she goes.
Are her poos normal, ie. hard, round? If it’s soft or runny or clumping and she’s not eating it after (cecals are edible) than you may have a problem. Why can’t you take her to a vet?

Reddish/orange pee can be caused by diet, like clover for instance can cause this. The wet bum though would concern me. This could be sign of a bladder infection, does the wet on her bum smell? Is there blood in the urine, or is it just discoloured? Honestly this sounds like a trip to the Vet an a urine analysis, if there is an infection she will need antibiotics.

Her mom doesn’t seem to think they need vet care… thats why she cant take them to a vet

Can you call a local vet and ask if they think this is something you need to bring her in for, or what should you watch for if it were to get worse? Then, if the vet says it’s necessary, explain to the vet that your mother isn’t convinced she needs medical attention and ask the vet if she could explain to your mom what is needed. If your mother will be willing to get on the phone, it could help.

Animals are living beings. How many people do you know that lived to full adulthood without once needing to see a doctor. If you’ve posted her objections (I know this is a sensitive, important issue for you MirBear) please let me know where you posted about it previously so I can reread it. I don’t want to upset you by going over old ground. You’re worried enough as it is.

Mir, did you think it wasn’t pee on her fur? Could she have gotten under a leaky water bottle or wet by a water crock?
You mentioned elsewhere that she is a rex. Rex fur does get sort of waves or swirls when wet. Has there been any more problems?

Mir, how is Twix today? Is she still wet?

An orange color is within normal color range for rabbit urine.
Did you decide on keeping both buns?

If you call a vet and ask if an animal needs to be seen the answer is almost always going to be yes as a vet can’t diagnose an illness over the phone, without examining it.

Regardless, I can’t imagine how that must feel for you.  I feel very sad for you and your bunnies.   And I know you tried to find Twix a good home so that she could be cared by someone who had the resources— before this happened. So I know you love her dearly.   I know you are really in a very difficult situation and are ready to do what is best for her.   In that other  post on  the 12th, you said you were going to try and raise money yourself for all your other bunny’s needs including vet care.  So are you saying that even if you earned the money,  your mother would not take you?  IF she wouldn’t would you be able to get a friend to?  Or would your mother not even allow you to get vet care even if you had the money and transportation.

If she would allow you to get vet care if you had the $$ and transportation, do you have any ideas on how to move forward with your original plan on trying to get this done on your own. 

I always had my parents support when I was growing up in regards to pets, so I’m not sure how this would work, but can a minor even legally get vet care for an animal or does the paperwork and consent forms need to be signed by the guardian? I’m just imagining all these 13- and 14-year-olds sneaking in to get rabbits spayed, and if something goes wrong, and the final bill amount increases… it’s likely they would not have enough money to cover it.

Another member is having similar issues where the problem isn’t lack of money, but rather the guardian’s refusal to seek vet care b/c they just don’t want to. If vet care is not a viable option for you, I personally cannot in good conscience recommend you keep either bun. A minor problem can turn major quickly with buns, or they can fall tomorrow and break something, or develop head tilt or stasis overnight. You must be able to at least have money to humanely euthanize if something happens that you cannot afford to treat and if there’s no one willing to take (and treat) the bunny.

I’m starting to feel like a broken record on here. I also had pets as a teenager, but I’ve never had to deal with parents being unwilling to take responsibility. I like that BB is a place people can come, including young people, to get good information about diet, housing, care, but at a certain point there’s nothing else we can *legally* suggest. We are not vets and we’re not a substitute for seeking vet care.

When I was 15-16 I was considered the one responsible for the pets. It may be wrong, or unusual, but I had a job so my money went to buying the food, the flea, tick, and heartworm preventive, I called the vet to set up appointments, I went to the city to register the dogs, I even paid all the adoption fees though my mom’s signature was needed, haha. But then again, I’m not saying this is the way to go about it, but this is the way it was for me. My mom would wait in the car when I brought the pets into the vet, they never asked about her… My mom wasn’t a bad person, and she would have covered the difference if I didn’t have enough money on me (though I would have had to pay her back).

Maybe I looked like an adult? Hmmn….

I can’t honestly think of a sure-fire way for you to raise the money for a vet appointment.

Let me think this out. For me and my vet, a regular check up is $32. Since your bun is sick. I recommend going in with at least $60 (if your mom would refuse to cover the difference, try to have at least $75 on you. I’m not saying that your bun may not require more money, but that should cover a consult and perhaps cheap meds, or a test. You can always tell them how much money you have on you, and ask that if they need to run a test or prescribe meds that they give you an estimated price so that if you don’t have the cash, you can return later).

Do you have any creative skills? Crochet, knit, make bird houses, etc? Can you make money by selling these things to family, friends of the family, the family of your friends, teachers, etc? You can make money this way.

But to be completely frank, I’m worried about this situation. Part of being a good owner is providing vet care when needed, and even when it’s not needed (check up, etc). I know it isn’t a reflection on you, and I’m sorry. I’m sort of new to the forum, but from what I gathered reading others’ comments you were trying to find another home for your rabbit? Is there a shelter that will take rabbits near to you?

I’m sorry that I don’t know the whole story so maybe my suggestions have already been said. I don’t know your feelings on giving your rabbit to a rescue, or if your mom would even let you, but it may be the best option. I work for a rescue that takes dogs and cats, but also small animals. It may not be the ideal home, but medical care would be provided, and potential homes would be carefully screened.

The orange color may be normal, and the wet bum may go away and cure itself, but if it is unlikely that you will be able to provide vet care in the future, then maybe the bunny needs a new home.

I hope my advice helps slightly, sorry if my comments are invalid because I don’t know the background story.
